Has we probably know starboard boards in australia this year are a no go ,just looking around for a new surf sup,that was my choice for many years star board pro 7'7" , Airborne 7'2"x28" ,Hyper nut 6'!0" .ECS Turbo 6"2" x26 and ECS weapon 7' 6" x26 .Last year Naish 8' x27"chuck patterson a little bigger in volume but fantastic in pumping surf.As being 68 kilo small boards have always been hard to get hold of and that gap seems to be tightening to just a small group of companys.I,m considering the JP 7'6" x 27 surf pro or the jp surf slate pro 7'4" x26 .Anyone ridden them out there ? Give us your views

What's the story with Starboard.

I just picked up a second hand carbon Hypernut, 7"2 that is awesome.

If you can't get what you want then go custom. There are quite a few independent shapers out there who could cater for your needs.

Alternatively if you have a chat with Colas I'm sure he could assist you as these Gong boards that he rides have been pushing the small profile for years. I have no affiliation here by the way.

I have the same problem as you (I am about 62/64Kg dripping wet with wetsuit) and I currently ride a 7.4 Airborn, 7.2 custom and a 7.3 Mckee Turbo & I also have a 6.10 Hypernut coming soon. I previously owned and loved my 7.4 Jp (my favorite) but it had too much volume for me so I was thinking about the 7.6 Jp but was told that it was not as good as the 7.4 Jp, I really do not like riding a longer board anymore, anything longer then 7.4 feels like a longboard to me now. Also I did own & try the ces weapon - lite but it is just too long (7.10), I think second hand is your best bet when you can find the right board (that s what I do:-) Also if you are interested I want to get rid of my 7.3 Turbo ?:-)

Gong boards are not sold outside of Europe, but I must say that I am quite impressed by the new Sunova Placid as shown on the video posted in "Sunova Casso" thread:

Comfortable width, especially in the nose, pulled in tail but still wide hips, thin rails, boxes for twin fin... If I lived in OZ, this would definitively the board I would buy!... seems similar in spirit to the Gong Fatal. Something inherently stable so you can undersize it (even ordering a custom model?) to turbocharge it in conditions where paddling speed is not an issue.

This said, I did not ride the JPs, but there are people here with them, and they are quite satisfied with them, and rip on them.

I just received delivery of a nice 2017 6.10 Hypernut and it looks interesting, and yes keep your 7.4 Airborn forever as a great 'all round go to board' (actually I have owned 3 of them previously), and as far as the resent 7.6 Jp Pro goes you just can not go wrong with it (I did demo one ages ago but the surf was pretty bad at the time), I do not know about the resent 7.4 Slate but I think the Jp Pro is better for more performance type surfing & waves:-)

My next board I am seriously considering a jackclose pro model from Deep. Have you checked them out and get a custom to what you want ? Only the few threads I found on here got me amping, haven't even paddled one yet haha.

So Asher Pacey Carbon Flex, I was actually thinking about C drives in the front and regular 4.5 starboard rears maybe and the one I got is the 2017 one I think, it looks really good and light but no suitable surf at the moment:-)
Also I know of a really good performance board that may suit you which i actually prefer and that is an older 2013ish 7.7x27"=5.5kg=92L Starboard Pro (Sean Poynter model) my big wave / performance wave surf sup, maybe keep a look out for one in the future:-)
