My wonderful Shroom 8.7, bought last year, is becoming too big for me.
I'm undecided between an Shroom 8.3 and an the new Hyper Nut 7.10.
After after long reflections, probably the Shroom 8.3, in the late spring, will be the choice.
I'm not sure but I think that HN is a little bit more unstable than Shroom and I hate drop in the water.
The Sunova are so beautiful and so well built that I can't do without. And the Shroom is
pure fun in the most of my sea conditions.
I would ask to everyone, especially to the mith STC, that have well tried the downsizing of the Shroom,
to describe what kind of sensation I can feel... Its only 4 inch but the difference seems really great.
In particular is an 8.3 a little bit faster and lighter than an 8.7 and more suitable for a little bigger waves?
Hi Linkus
I was 107 kg last time I rode both 8'3 & 8'7 Shrooms
The 8'3 was easy for me in trunks.... never tried it in full wetsuit gear, cuz I knew it would be difficult.
The 8'7 was always too big for me.
It surfed fine, but felt huge..... big difference from the 8'3
The 8'3 is very short for my size, but I never really struggle with it....
the shape gave me enough surface area for stability even at a "weight to volume" ratio of 1.14
In waves over 4' I found I had to scrub off speed before I threw a turn.
The Shroom has a speed "comfort zone'.... when you go over that, it will resist a turn because of the wide tail.
It is very fast on small or weak waves and loves to snap up the face.... just dial it back if surfing bigger than shoulder high.
The 8'3 is much snappier than the 8'7
Here are some vids of me riding the 8'3 at 107 kg
shorty that shows how easy it turns
this one shows details of how the 8'3 floated me at 107 kg and my 1st sessions on it
