No worrys Helmy. This is west coast of Vancouver Island in Tofino. There are several beaches to surf from but when it is to big at the main beaches I go to this little protected beach which is sheltered by a couple of islands (Mackenzie).

At the end, after reading a lot of 3d and saw a lot of times all the videos, I should take a decision.
The assumptions: I'm a 49's weekend warrior (but not all...), not really an athlete but I love enjoy in the sea in small waves
(max chest or rarely head) not steppy or curly beacuse for my skill they are quite dangerous. In summer time I usually do some miles under the sun for workout, waiting the waves.
The firs alternative is that I remain with my loved and well known Fanatic Allwave Ltd 9.0 ft per 159 lt suitable for my small wave,
quite easy and enjoying in calm water. Something like a wife or an old slipper...
The second alternative is give up with the "wife" and get the beautiful ugliness of a Shroom 8.7, 17 litres and 3 inch less in lenght,
more than 1 inch in width. It's stable as rock and more than my actual one? Very very well, I hate drop in the
water waiting waves and I dont want a more challenging board: I want enjoy in the water I want something easy to ride because the life is already full of problems.
It's too big? Not for me that I use 159 lt board. It also seems going quite straight thanks to the particular raked "quadster" fins for my summer workout. Isn't it?
Cuase the dimension probably paddling is more guelling but the differences are so small...
What should I do?

I know the hypernut 8' was mentioned earlier.
Just to add more for you to think off.

I have the 8'6" Hyernut x 31.5 at 135ltrs.

From what you said above, I think this would be a good choice.
It will have a bit more Glide than the 8'.
its really stable, fun on waves, plus I can paddle it around in flat water for a bit of fun. It's not going to be tourer but it works ok.

If it it will make a big change over your own board, not sure.

I do enjoy it for max fun and ease of use.

Rgmacca makes a good point .
The 8'6 and 8 have almost same volume .The 8 is thicker and therefore more likely to bounce around front to back in chop.
The 8'6 looks a safer bet and more fun

I ride an an Allwave 9 with 159lt of volume and it doesn' t seem too big or cumbersome to me. I should say just last year in february I had a not easy surgical procedure on my back in the spinal cord to reduce some problem properly at the nerve lines of the legs and others. So for me a very stable board is ok because leg muscle are slowly coming back but unfortunately not all.

Well I got my 7,9 shroom what a unreal looking board I customized the board with colors can't wait to get out and let you know my thoughts any tips on this board before I give it a crack

Some pics of the custom colored Shroom would be great! Hope you enjoy it! From all reports (not having ridden one myself) you'll need to move the back foot around quite a lot to get on a rail when turning due to width of the board and the unique quad fin set-up. I'm sure I recall SupTheCreek also saying the original Shrooms were a little 'over-finned' size-wise but that may have changed as I think his was a prototype (forgive me if I'm wrong, STC!). Thx buddy took it out last sat at Cronulla even though it was big it paddled really well through the surf
balance was surprisingly good and had glide , might take it out to bay on weekend

i think get a sunova style any length , or a 'ONE' ..with longboards the extra volume does not behave like it does in a shorter board - and a longer board is not harder to turn , just a different skill set

Haydo would be interesting to see how it goes in Bay Surf. I use the Speed 88 out there and it goes reasonally well with some nice long rides from the Bundeena side.
Have considered how a Shroom would go in those waves in both calm
and windy conditions.
The 7'9' is big ? I was considering that size option I am between 65-70kg (depending on season).
How's the front to back stability ?

I feel a Shroom is the upgrade of my 8'6 x 32 1/2 Space Pickle as mush board. Mainly running as big twin ,handles lump n bump ok But wanting more GO..??
Anyone on the Surfcoast or Melb have the larger 2 sizes I can look at / demo ? Mmmmm maybe the 8'3 as well ...going by STC's reconing.

8'3 Shroom is plenty big enough for 80-110kg riders.. It has a big plan shape and you need to move your back foot around it, even in the smaller sizes..

My Shroom 8.7 finally is arrived. I launched it Saturday in an completely flat sea. What can I say at the moment? The board is wonderful, incomparable with anything else I ever seen before. A lot of people asked to me about what kind of board was! The epoxy finish is well above Fanatic or Naish. I don't know Naish but if you put a wet Fanatic board in a bag you risk the painting. I don't think it happen with a Sunova. The Shroom in the water: I'm 192 cm (6'29 foot) for 90kg (198 lbs) and my previous board is a Fanatic Allwave Ltd 9.0 x 159 liters. The Shroom's stability is embarrassing but absolutely comfortable. The concave deck is really magic: you con move your foot on the deck with a lot of confidence. An last but not the least the board goes straight. You can use this board also for flat paddling session without get crazy. I should try it better but it doesn't seems too much slow. I'm waiting for some waves! Ah, the Liftsup is great!

Finally the waves are arrived. This morning i tried the Shroom in the waves. The sea condition wasn't ideal: strong lateral wind very irregular vaves rare head, usually chest or waist but very fast and curly. The channels for exit inexistent. But the Shroom is absolutely a fantastic board. Stable as a rock even in the roughest conditions even against the waves coming back to the line up. I asked to myself al lot of time why i'm still on? Waiting waves is no more a high demanding activity. Catch the vaves its easier because you are not so tired waiting fore them. Cut the vaves becames normal. Turning is natural, changing position of the foot is not a risky business only for pro. The concave deck stops your foot and give a lot of leverage. I love my Shroom!

Nice feedback Linkus. Any nosedive issues or is there enough kick in the nose ?

Also what's its like to turn ? The back is fairly wide

I'm not a pro but yesterday I had a lot of fun! I went to sleep with an idiot smile on the face. I can do only a comparison with my previous board, Fanatic Allwave LTD 9.0 (now on sale). The Shroom is shorter but I think it has also more rocker so nosediving is absolutely not a problem. Probably also the crazy concave hull gives a great kick in the nose. The sensation is like to be on a flyng carpet. The board seems catch the waves by himself. The Allwave was more difficult for me especially in the condition like yesterday. Another very important aspect it's the amazing behavior against the waves. In summary I can say that with the Shroom , you drop in the water half of the times and you can catch the double of waves. Also the turning the board between the waves on the line up is more simple and faster. In the Mediterranean sea rarely there is a long period between the waves. I can't wait to get out in the sea again....

Haydo how does this compare with your Flow on the same type of wave ?

Antother feedback, rather a tribute, for ths incredible board. It's about a month that I use my Shroom and in this period I had a couple of amazing evenings, after work, in very nice and not usual conditions for the Mediterranean Sea.
Quite regular waist/chest waves with a good period and well defined exit channels. In those evenings I was with my young buddy, 26 years old, weight 85 kg, well trained, intermediate level (a little worst than me!). He has a brand new Naish Hokua LE 8.7 with 140 litres of volume. Almost the same volume and the same lenght of my Shroom.
Well, when I used to go with him with the Fanatic Allwave I was able to catch some waves more than him. Nothing special o so relevant.
Now, with the Shroom, I can catch, ride and cut almost every wave. It seems that my skill are really increased but that's not true!. Every wave is mine or better I can choose my wave because I can reach and stay easily and effortless on the line up. Stayng with less fatigue on the line up means catch the vawes with more rested legs. My buddy instead continues to drop often in the water...
There is another important aspect: the combination of fatigue and the emotion in seeing a good set of waves coming to me, often make my legs weaker. The stability of the Shroom make me very calm and sure. The acceleration catching the wave is softer and easier to manage, also the kick of the last part of foam wave near the seaside is a real pleasure on this magic flyng carpet.
Naturally we have switched ours board: for me the his Hokua is a quite hard work to stay on and an harder work catch a vave. For him my board feels a little bit heavy but fantastic for the waves. Now he wants an 8.0 or 8.3... The real sensation for me on Hokua is to be on an old fashioned board, the past, the usual schemes no innovations. A classic shape for oceanic waves (great and more regular) and for advanced rider but not ideal for my usual sea conditions and for my not high skill. If you are a middle age employee and you aspire to enjoy the usual Mediterranean mayhem you need something different. The Shroom brakes the schemes, the double concave shape is something different from anything else I ever seen. Be on the Shroom seems so natural and comfortable. It seems to be in a large and powerful luxury car. The Shroom has the advantages of a big board without the usual disadvantages on the waves: no nosediving, no weight, no encumbrance, no cumbersome feeling, easy paddling out. Another friend of mine (a lifeguard, surfer and supper) after looking me from the beach said: "You have found your board! And I wanna try it!".
Another important feature of the board is that in flat water it goes completely straight. Last Sunday against a strong north wind (in my area it makes the water choppy and flat) I did a lot of workout paddling up and down in front of my beach. Also the average speed isn't so bad because the large "quadster" fins prevent the waste of energy of the back swinging. In flat conditions it's very funny to stay very close to the seaside in shallow water walking on the breaking microwaves. With Allwave I used to stay always far to the seaside in deeper water for long walk because also little waves drop me. What can I say more? I deeply love my Shroom... Finally got some beach break waves
today 2foot clean face ?? wow
this shroom felt absolutely unreal
the shroom 7,9 105l paddled into waves so easy and with speed it really felt so stable and smooth dropping in bottom turning felt so easy then shot down the line with speed it just accelerated so well
Set up another bottom turn and I finished off with a great feeling top turn , I have to agree with everything I've read on the shroom fun fun fun
it honestly , fast ,smooth and whips around on your command. I still have to get my back foot further back and I'm sure I'll get tighter turns but today
I just rode the board as I would my flow it performed with terrific feeling , I know it's made for certain mush type waves but today was nice clean faces and it felt great . Today was the first real day I caught some good amount of waves the shroom 7,9 spun around paddled straight and sent me for a real fun ride . Stability while waiting was pretty stable I had a few swims but mainly due to back wash I think it's more my issue getting my balance . I'll spend some more time on the shroom and get back to ya for another update
