Yeah this is a pain, Try wrapping the key in foil and put it in the key safe. Should block the signal.

You can get key safes that are bulked up enough to actually disrupt the electronic field put out by those keys so it doesn't matter if you put it on your drivers side door.

I was stuck across the bridge from home, no car, no phone... No S@#t..... For some reason I tried the door of my car and it was unlocked. Couldn't believe my dumb luck. With that I grabbed my phone and called wife. No answer. Then I called Freshiesup. That legend dropped what he was doing and came to where I was to help. He brought a flat head screw driver and a claw hammer. And with those two basic tools, had pulled apart my lock and retrieved my car key in less than 60 seconds.
Now I know it's a no no to come on here and bag a surf related product, but I think this is an unusual case. Anyone who has one of these needs to know about this. It's a piece of rubbish!

Same for me. Without my glasses I don't much at close distance.

I ended up gluing a magnifying glass at the back, one of the flat ones like: www.amazon.com/3-Pack-Credit-Card-Pocket-Fresnel/dp/B00NWMUK0I/
(glueing the pouch, that is)

Yep, been there. Try flagging down a passing car in the dead of night in an unlit state park on the site of a former mental asylum.

What I do is change just one number. Let's say the code was 1234, I will decide to change just the last digit, e.g. 1237. The bad guy won't know I have done that, but whether the issue is poor eyesight or darkness, I just rotate the last dial until it opens. I just have to remember which digit I changed...

Had the same brand of key lock and it did the same thing. Just salt air and wet fingers causing the barrels to seize eventually. Unfortunately I didn't leave my door unlocked. Called RACQ. They hit it worth some spray lube and it eventually unlocked.

Thanks for the tip on that one. I've been trying to figure out how to leave my keyless ignition transmitter unit in the car without giving thieves the opportunity to break in and start the car with the flick of a switch.

Like the previous poster said, almost all insurance policies won't pay if the thief has your car key.

That is not actually correct. The smashing of a key safe would show violence in entry, so it is unlikely that an insurer would not pay. Im not actually sure how you would properly secure your car with the exception of perhaps getting a normal key cut (not electronic) and then locking your electronic one into the car.

The new Key safes come with one of these for that reason.
