These fins are great!

As per DJ's recommendation I have been using a V8 in the back and V6s on the sides.
There has been a notable difference in the performance of the board compared to the standard Starboard fins.

Cheers Antho and make sure you try slight adjustments in the rear fin position , really easy to do in the water just put a small screw driver in your pocket . You only need to loosen the screw a little (DON'T UNDO IT) and bump the fin fowards or backwards about 10mm , you will be surprised the difference it makes. If the fin is tight in the box be careful trying to knock it forward , if you have a wet shirt on take it off and wrap around the fin so you don't cut your hand. Another good tip is to put a pencil mark at the front of the fin before you go out to see how much it moves. Fins are so important to get the best out of your board like a prop on a boat. Always change them to suit conditions , it really does make a big difference.

Hey Anthony.. Helmy (Mark) used his VP fins for the first time in his 9'5" Mana the other day and said there was a very noticable improovement over the original fins.. He's using the V8's.. I started with using my V8's but have now dropped to the V6's on the side and the V8 in the center.. I like the smaller V6's in the side better..

I know nuthin about fins, but even I could tell they were a vast improvement on the standard Mana fins.

Thanks Helmy ....We all spend a lot of money on our boards and cheap plastic fins are like cheap tires on a car .The fin upgrade completely changes your boards performance. Appreciate the props rip it up mate.

Hey DJ you must have ESP I'm working on a 5 inch base 9 inches high and from back base to tip is 3.0 to 3.5 inches (rake) I'm taking this this from all my Hawaiian fins that are solid glass. This is a lot less rake but what I am testing is a fuller tip with less vertical rake that bend from only the mid point to the tip. They will look more like an old school windsurfer fin but with the flexing dynamics of a hybrid thruster fin.

I'm also doing some work with Cheyne Horan who is my my wife's cousin. Check out his new Thruster set below , we both agree that this will NOT work a Sup but the straighter rear fin might on larger boards. The beautiful swept back 9 & 10 inch glass fins will bend and flutter under load suited to a drop knee old school mal rider but Sups are doing much more than this now.

I want to produce a more up right rear fin with more controlled flexion from above its mid base and only flex on the tip you , can't get this from solid glass. Would love to have your input on final size and shape , it won't happen quickly but when I put it out it will be right.

Appreciate all input eyes are wide open....

I'm sure you know how much a simple dolphin shape fin can vary.. Some are too raked.. some too upright.. Some have not enough area in the tip.. and some too long in the base.. This red fin is a faverite of mine and seems to have the proportions just about right.. It's a hand made fin by a local guy.. This fin worked great in my 10'6" Nalu when I used it as a single fin.. and it's my current faverite fin for downwinding.. Pretty sure it's about 9" long..

Say Hello to Cheyne from Lacanau, here we are few friends who remenber good all times of the "comet".

So apart the synergy of experiences and knowledges from his shaper Mac Coy who design his board and the naval architect who design the Starfin settle both on the Comet, i say that that kind of fin template might work on SUP board.
Because Cheyne's board was very thick and flat , so board's tail doesn't penetrate water, fins have to provide drive without digging rails.
As the tail of the Vangard type of board and under 7' pointed nose's board doesn't penetrate water as well, i reckon this fins 's template will work.
That make me understand why i did prefer shallow trapezoidal fin template on my 6'5" Vangard style of board.

Actually, I would think these "spitfire" design could be killer as twins very far back on a wide tail. A replacement for the Keels of most Simmons.

I used Cheyne single starfin on a 6'6" SUP (and a 9" spitfire on a 9'6" noserider SUP), very pivotal, the board would have noticeably less drag, and turn very fast, at once, but not in a controlled smooth arc. Maybe putting these kind of fins as far back as possible could be a way to tame them... I will be interested to try.





I must reckon I want interested when Cheyne mailed about these new E3E fins, but now that I have some time with a Simmons... ordering a set now :-)

After hiding somewhere these additions showed. US box V8 and V6 sides.

Installed in my incredible King's custom Laser 7'11" x 31.5" x 4.3" x 117 liters. Initially set up as a quad and was
too loose. Added a knubster still too loose in head high hollow waves.

Starting with all V8's but may end up with V8 center and V6 sides.

The ice is melting pray for surf!

Thanks Clevo , I like the tail on your board very nice. That center fin box is a long way forward would love to know Kings thoughts on that , maybe to be used as a single fin ?

Hey Rob, Cheyne might give the 7'11" a go as a single, but I believe the placement of the center box gives you a good five fin option as well as being able to move the center fin a long way forward. Speed wobbles if you like!

Hey Rob, Finally got to try the V8 thruster setup in the King's 7'11". As you blokes say, it works a treat!

Faster and more positive than with the quads - even with a knubster. Turn initiation still easy with no wobbles when pumping. No speed no maneuvers - or falling! LMAO!

Good stuff Clevo thanks for the update. The more pivot turn from a thruster gets you around quicker making it easier to engage the rail. Keep that back foot on the tail kick ...and drive it home

well, here´s my Little review about the V6 on my Hokua 9´5¨ GT. We have an awesome weekend of good surf

Saturday, 3 hours with 10-12 knot onshore breeze, some wind chop, big fat waves (OH-max DOH faces) Put 3 v6 on my board, before that i have only use it on the original set up (M7 sides and the big naish centrer fin)

The board become a Little more unstable and with a Little more jaw (first impression paddling out). First wave, the board felt loose.

I put more concience on my stance, bending more my knees, back foot on the tail pad.

The board was way more loose than i´m used to. Very easy to pivot and turn with plenty of speed.

Must say that when i came out, i was wondering if i didn´t choose the rigth size as i felt that the center fin didn´t give me the drive (the one i´m used to) . Remember, it was choppy with some fat sections.

Sunday...ohhh sunday...beatifull, glass, almost no wind at all with some offshore breeze. The beach i choosed was perfect hollow OH waves with some smaller ones and some bigger ones with perfect barrels. (not the beach i choosed but near, you can check how it was here http://paipo.com.uy/corumba-y-gavilan-29-3-tioyushi-part1-2/ )

Well..remember all the things i said about not having the drive and the board felt unstable???? I will have to swallow all those words.

In steep, hollow waves, with the same set up (thruster V6) i think nothing work better. I had the speed i needed, this fins hold to the wave like no other, i ´mean, late drops, very steep and vertical, bottom turn and hold the line. Althought the wave was very fast (or at least the bigger ones) it was like i was on a board specially made for getting barrelled, and folks, that´s not the houka i´m used to.

In some smaller waves, i had the chance to go up to the lip and throw the tail, something like a cut back but ending up going to the same direction. (going left, i´m regular)

Well bottom line: the fins not only look good, they are great!!!! Changed how my board rides and i think upgraded it to a new level.

New fins on the way , my fins got copied in a couple of countries (it only took 3 months) so I am changing to a insane new graphic water transfer (to make it impossible to copy) plus a new full carbon construction to improve performance on the FCS twin tab type. The new fins will also float. I have also introduced a FCS V6 rear for the hybrids and by popular demand a Dogman designed 7" rear for the bigger boards. (very sexy looking fin) It was never my intention to change design or construction but I have to stay ahead of the competition & cheats to give you the best fins on the Sup market.

My FCS twin tab fins where flexing more than the Future solid base fins at the base so I now have changed the base on the FCS twin tab to all solid carbon to match the flex pattern of the Future solid base. I was sold out of V8's but I just received a batch of the new full carbon based V8 FCS in the original VP logo which I have been testing and they feel great. You can still get these at the original combo price of $200 delivered in Aus. (8 sets only)

With the new construction & printing process plus the wailing Aussie dollar will mean the new VP 6 fin Combos will go for around $290 delivered. Available mid to late August. I'll put out a new video when they arrive.

Here is a sneak peak at the new fins , lets see if the copiers can reproduce this I'm also looking for a name for my new fin series in the new graphic's , so I will open up a competition to who ever comes up with the best name for a free set of fins. I kind of like Astro as in the "Captain Good Vibes" side kick. Lets see what you have got.
