I'm super excited & can't wait for the release of an all new model by Jimmy Lewis named the "Destroyer".... Modelled off his number 1 selling surfboard model the Destroyer will be the perfect 1 board quiver....
With a beautiful pulled in rounded pin tail & fuller nose it should fit in somewhere between our number 1 best selling board the Striker & maybe the Stun Gun with a 5 fin setup... Performance with stability & paddle power...
The new Destroyer will come int the following sizes with hopefully a NEW 10 x 29" in the new year (I have a custom arriving in this shipment to try)

7'7 x 29 100L

8 x 30 115L

8'5 x 30.5 130L

8'10 x 31 145L

9'3 x 31.5 160L

As usual Jimmy just doesn't do a new model to follow a trend, he puts a lot of thought & time into developing a new model & with over 50 years of shaping experience he nails it every time...

So between with the super frank, striker, and the black and blue already in the line-up, what role is this new board supposed to fill?

HI Exiled, firstly you can never have too many boards but it would fit in there for maybe the bigger & bumpier days with a bit more hold & performance... Or as Eski said you could replace them all with a new one :)

I mean, the shape 3d file references the striker in the file name and the blue machine in the master scale, so it clear that they share a common starting point, but what makes the Destroyer different? More rocker? Different rails?

Lot of misinfo in that file I would guess.

The Destroyer surfboard, which I have, is a great high performance funboard shape. I know that sounds a contradiction but it paddles easily, catches waves easy but you can rip it around on a good wave. Thin rails and generous rocker help. I would guess he is doing something similar in a sup. Not a noserider like the blue and striker. More nose rocker and pulled in.

I have the 9,5 Striker ....it's a good board but I've always found I wanted it to have had more rocker and more nose kick when the waves were steeper or bigger.....this template looks like it would fill that slot. I tend to use my Striker on clean days and smaller days....

However, I've moved on and prefer longer boards......so I do hope something comes off with a 10 ft longboard with more performance....however I think that doesn't fit within this Destroyer type template....talking a diff shape.

i was in touch with JL and he pointed me to the 10 ft Striker but I don't want another one....after something a bit diff.

The longest in this Destroyer line is 9,3 but too wide and too much volume for what I need...but if I was after a shorter fun surf shape the smaller versions look excellent.

I tend to agree with you Hilly, it will be a sup version of the Destroyer surfboard which is my understanding....I would also say the data on the screen shot is just where the file was saved last time so I wouldn't pay too much attention to it...There is definitely a nice rocker line in it & hopefully nice refined rails...
Slab, the 9'5 Striker has been updated & is more refined than the earlier model & the Striker if "finned" properly surfs as well as any performance board with it's beautiful rail & rocker line but the original 9'5 & 8'11 had the bigger US market in mind so they had a little more beef in the middle...
I'll be pushing Jimmy for a 10'x 29" or similar to be added to the range once i receive my custom in a few weeks & get it on the water...

If you do not want to hang ten on such a board, you may be actually looking for a "cruiser" or "glider" shape rather than a longboard shape. Try to talk with JL on this idea. In terms of current JL shapes, it would be closer to a stun gun with a relaxed rocker than a striker with more rocker.

Colas, it has more rocker than the Striker & in the 10' model it will be narrower than the other sizes as we want it to be a performance 10' model as the 10' market in Australia has taken off again with 10' divisions being added to all the events around Australia... Here's what Jimmy just sent me in relation to the design of the board in the other sizes-


It was inspired by my friend Mike Perry (hence the name Destroyer MP) who wanted a stand up board that was a combination of the Striker stand up, which he loved, and the Destroyer surfboard with the round pin tail and the slightly lifted nose rocker which the Striker doesn't have.

So a more performance orientated board that will suit most conditions... Giving both stability & performance....Aloha Jimmy
P.S he has cruiser models in his range but the market here in Australia has moved on from that..

I've got a cruiser already but it's heavy.....which is a plus in some conditions.....so after something more performance ina longboard shape. I've narrowed it to a 10 ft Stylemaster or 10 ft SMIK Lord Style.

The Hanalei is still a sh1t hot board. 10 4 x 28 rips in good waves.

Our best board for both surf and flat water. Generally wave shapes don't track (paddle straight) well because they're designed to turn, but the Hanalei with it's parallel rail outline and classic rocker creates the ultimate crossover board. Flat bottom to "V" starting in front of the fin area flowing out the tail makes this board paddle quickly and smoothly and surfs the same way.
2+1 Fin box set up.

That's cool Hilly that you asked Jimmy a few years ago about a performance 10' Longboard..... That's why I asked him to add the 10' Striker & had it added to the range... (but i didn't want it to be just a "Big" guys 10' or just a bigger version of the 9'5 Striker (which the original one had been around for a while but has now lost some of it's beef in the middle due to the new 8'5 & 10' coming out so nicely)
I wanted a board that was competitive but still saleable to the market which is what the 10' Striker is even though it's wider than what I would normally ride it suits a broader market which is reflective in it's sales...
Hence the first 10' x 29" custom Destroyer which has received such positive feedback (now globally thanks to social media that Jimmy has taken notice & said no problem to adding it to the range...
I guess Jimmy just looks at the Global market & it seems that the 10' market has taken off here in Aus (which I'm glad to see it go full circle from the beginning of sup when i first started) earlier than it has around the world....
The best thing about Jimmy though is he will listen & take it on board & also why he doesn't have 50 different models in his range....Just ones that generally work for "most" people...

I'd be interested in possibly having it replace my 10'1" B&B. I love that board, but I'd like to keep the length and nose-riding capabilities while thinning it out a bit. Let me/us know how it is for noseriding.

Hi adamj2281, I don't think it would ever replace the Black & Blue Machine as that's a very "specialised" board... It's especially designed to surf like a 60's longboard & to nose-ride... The new Destroyer in the shorter models is designed to be the one board that does "all" & the 10' version is to fill a gap in Jimmy's range for the re-emerging 10' division... The 10' Striker will do that also but at 31" wide it is too wide for some people including myself but great for the majority of people...
Proof will be in the pudding & I should have the new Destroyer's in early next week... stand by for a review :)

Hands down the best surf sup I've ever ridden.... My all NEW 7'7" x 29" 100L JL Destroyer sup surfed amazingly this morning (especially since all I've been doing is foilboarding & haven't had a sup surf for weeks)... As soon as i jumped on the Destroyer I couldn't believe how stable & well it paddled & first wave it just took off down the line & straight into a cracking cutback (as anyone knows who foils there's a bit of transition back & getting use to not have your foil there for stability & then getting back onto your back foot)... The board is sooo fast & glided into the clean 3 footers easily, it's stable & loose off the tail.... For the next hour I had a blast on the small 3 foot peaks as i got back into my surf turns... The board turned hard off the rail but then you could release the tail at the end of the turn without fear of sliding out & losing control...
I'm running Future's Vectors & a 4.5" centre fin thruster setup...
The Destroyer has got me pumped on going surfing again & might keep me off the foil a bit more :)
