My all NEW 7'7" x 29" 100L JL Destroyer sup surfed amazingly this morning (especially since all I've been doing is foilboarding & haven't had a sup surf for weeks)... As soon as i jumped on the Destroyer I couldn't believe how stable & well it paddled & first wave it just took off down the line & straight into a cracking cutback (as anyone knows who foils there's a bit of transition back & getting use to not have your foil there for stability & then getting back onto your back foot)... The board is sooo fast & glided into the clean 3 footers easily, it's stable & loose off the tail.... For the next hour I had a blast on the small 3 foot peaks as i got back into my surf turns... The board turned hard off the rail but then you could release the tail at the end of the turn without fear of sliding out & losing control...
I'm running Future's Vectors & a 4.5" centre fin thruster setup...
The Destroyer has got me pumped on going surfing again & might keep me off the foil a bit more :)

Even better than the super frank? Would be keen to have a demo if possible.

Hey Rob,

Why would you buy one (destroyer / superfrank) over the other?

At a guess... destroyer more all round and can handle some oomph, the SF more for mush...?

HI Hoppo3228, yes exactly.... The Destroyer is the one board for all conditions whereas the Super Frank is your small wave groveller... Like having a "Fish" in your quiver....
I took the 7'7 destroyer out in some chunky 4 foot onshore waves a couple of days ago & it was stable yet surfed so well off the rail & tail... Really forgiving under foot & off the top...

The latest model in the JL stand up wave line: the "Destroyer MP". Mike Perry, pictured here with his two new boards (8'10" X 31" and 9'3" X 31.5"). Mike inspired this shape. He loves his Striker and he loves the Destroyer surfboard and wanted a stand up board that was a combination of the two. He's stoked on his new model, as is Rob Gittoes, my Australian importer who reported that his Destroyer MP is the best stand up wave board he's EVER ridden.

I put my new JL 7'7" Destroyer on the scales this morning & was impressed by it's weight with fins & rail tape..I've found a lot of Carbon model boards corkier than non carbon but then there's the trade off of the weight that was until I started riding Jimmy's boards & his Signature Sandwich construction is as light as most carbon models but without that corkiness...
My new 7'7" x 29" Destroyer at 100L weighs in at 6.5KG with fins & rail tape....

Are there any plans to add any size increases over the 9'3 ?

say a 9'6 x 32 ? Or would it need to be a custom.

No not yet but I can ask Jimmy for you...But going on how stable the Destroyer is & considering there is the 9'3 x 31.5" I'm not sure... We have discussed offering 2 widths in each size like the Super Frank but seeing as the new model has only just landed we'll wait & see...

Hi Suprider, I think you would be surprised at how stable they are & litres are only a guide especially when a good shaper with 50 years experience like Jimmy gets all the dimensions correct you get a board much more stable than bigger less experienced brands.... I reckon my 7'7 Destroyer is more stable than my 9'6 Oxbow from 8 years ago...

Well I just rode my new 7'7 Destroyer in 5-6" pumping right hand reef break waves this morning & it surfed insane.... So good off the bottom without any skipping or feeling of it sliding out & then so solid off the top... it held it's rail & the speed was unreal down the line... LOVE this board....

Gday railbanger, I've got the 8'5" 130 litre Destroyer, currently running it in thrustor trim (it comes with a JL 3 fin set). I'm 187cm, 96kg, 62yo and coming off a JP surf pro 9'2" 136 litres. I must say I was pleasantly suprised at the stability of the Destroyer and I'd say it's on a par with the JP in that department. In terms of wave performance it's done everthing I've expected of it in the small wind swell conditions that have prevailed in the few weeks since I have had the board. I cant wait to test it out in some more solid conditions. I'll report back when I've had a chance test it out a little further.

I've managed to have 2 quick surfs on my new 10' foot Destroyer but have either been too busy foiling or riding my new 7'7" Destroyer....It did feel stable & loose & can't wait to get it out in the right conditions... more feedback to come shortly but it will be going into production...

How does the Destroyer surf compared to the Striker of the same size. Does the Destroyer have more nose rocker?

From the photos I have seen the answer is yes.....heaps more rocker in the board, right through it. Think of the Striker but for steeper and bigger waves (as well as mushy) and not such for noseriding.

Hey Jimmy

what are the rail thicknesses like?
i see the 8'0 is about the same volume as my old gulliver vbox8'1, except that was only 27.5" wide and had a wide tail. Must be pretty tapered to hve the same volume or quite a dome deck?

How would you rate the stability of the 7'7 vs other boards you've tried of the same volume?

Also, any coming to any nz shops to check out?

Hey benjl,
You'll have to contact the NZ distributor to see if they are landing any soon... but to answer your questions the rails are nicely tapered without being too low to catch or be too far under water but not too soft & rounded... The ones on the 7'7 I'm riding are perfect for me in that they are nice and hard in the tail area for hold & performance but nice & forgiving up the front so as not to catch... I'm 6'1 & 82kg & the board sits perfectly in the water for me...I've ridden boards with more litres & they've been less stable than this 7'7 at 100L...

Had my 8'5" JL Destroyer out in some shoulder high point break waves this morning. I came in really happy with the way it performed. Was easy to paddle into waves despite a fairly bumpy and steep takeoff area.
The relatively wide rounded tail (compared to my 9'2" JP surf pro) made turning really smooth and controlled. The nature of the short period waves made it necessary to continually cut back and the Destroyer really felt smooth and easy.
An added bonus is the light weight making it a breeze when a long carry is involved.
Loving the board so far and I haven't played around with the fins yet.
