HI everyone ,i just thought I'd up date my findings on the 8,7 placid .

I had a big week on it in small to medium size surf ,it has surprised me on its ez of use ,and non catchy rails ,

eg, today it was 4 foot choppy face ,it really was easy to surf it un like a sharp railed board and it really kept its looseness and was able to do cut backs in what i call not a good day ,but i still managed to still do some really good cut backs on it ,where i may have struggled to do on my flow with sharp rails and a faster board ,it is noticeably a slower board ,but its really happy sitting right in the steep of the wave and can shoot straight up to the lip and ...it comes down too, really would have to say it is a easy board to use and shred ,but if you are looking for a speedy board ,maybe look at a different shape ,I am quite happy to sacrifice a little speed for the ability to just turn at the bat of a eye and come down off the top knowing the rounded rail and generous rocker will make the drop .

I do feel my shreddness ,if there is a word has improved with this board ...I am very happy with the quad set up so far ,
I will try and get some footage of the board soon ,so you know what I mean .

ALL GOOD mate ,i feel i have found the board I've been looking for ,its stable ,it's loose and it's easy to use ,
its not the fastest of boards compared to the 9.1 acid or speed ,acid ,also 125 litres ...But you can do moves and pull them off ,its what i call a trick board ,
When the proners think your
ripping ,its a good sign ..one said to me ,imagine what you could do if you jumped back on a
short board ...you would rip ,I humbly said yes maybe i should try it one day ....ain't gonna happen though ,
but I'm really pleased with the board ...i never thought I'd like a wide board again @ 31,5 ,but being only 8'7 long
and a really pulled in tail and a **** load of rocker...I really like it ,my other 8'7 flow is a bit harder to ride ,maybe faster
but i feel more confident on the placid ...if i was going on a surfing trip ,i would take the placid ...
IT'S the kind of board you can do a hard bottom turn and smack the lip ,if your on the heavy side and looking for a
board that can pull off big moves ...the 8'7 placid is for you ..it does like more powerful waves i feel ..the rounded rails are really nice
and smooth through chop ,and good control in white wash ,it has a massive V section in the tail which seems to work for it ,
Its quite good riding in the middle ,and riding close to the nose it kinda gives really good stable control if going for a barrel .
I've had a few on it now It feels similar riding to the Acid and flash ,probably closer to the flash ,but they have made them shorter
and kept the volume ,which i also like about them ....

oh well I've rambled on enough ...

8,3 looks inviting too ..

turns well- perhaps if i could get a bit more speed,,,, I want it to be as fast as possible and still loose.
Is it designed as a twin finboard or a quad?
And is it worth putting aftermarket fins in .. quad , twin, ?
It is big for my body weight 112 litres 75kgs. i am not into wobbly skinny boards anymore..

yes ...definitely try more combos ..I like the Quad ,as you do get more speed out of the placid ,Shaper QUADS

I like your quote . .''.nice and loose on a nothing wave'' , that sums it up , where other boards bog down .

I've had the most fun on mine in medium size waves ..

but yeah the 9,1 sure does look big .looking forward to seeing you on the smaller one ..360 time

I have a 9'1 Placid... too big for me, even at 106 kg.
The nose is quite wide, even at 9'1 size.
Swapping out for an 8'10... but could probably go with the 8'7 because it is such a stable, wide board.

I'm a 92 kg advanced rider and ride a customized 7'11 x 30.5" F-One Papenoo, stubby shape, 130 liters, with beveled rails throughout.
I like it in clean conditions, but fall too often in choppy conditions and would like more takeoff speed in mushy waves.

I'm considering the Placid 8'7 but i don't know if the 8'7 would give me enough stability in choppy conditions, being even smaller volume than my current board and also having thin rails.
But maybe it's a difference if thin rails come from bevels or dome, considering the rail volume is shaved off on the top or bottom of the rail?

Or would the Placid 8'10 be the better choice for me?

I am 72 and 107 kg
A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to paddle the 8'7 Placid.
I concluded that I could easily surf it on clean days.... even at a weight to volume ratio of 1.16, it was very stable for a board that size.
Currently I have an 8'10, which is right in my wheelhouse on most days

The 8'7 should be fine for you at 1.35 times your weight
With ample width forward, it makes for a very easy board for it's volume of 125 L.

Here's a pic of me on the 8'7 Placid.

Hi Alex,

You will be perfectly fine on the 8'7. During the pandemic I have been working hard on my weight and I have grown further from 100 kg to 105 kg. I am proud of my achievement . I am 6'3" and old, and even at my ocean break (Big Left) in less than perfect conditions (on-shore wind of 10+ knots on top of normally lumpy ocean conditions and big swell), I was OK. It was tippy, and I had some unhappy moments falling off at the wrong time, so I would not recommend 105 kg and 8'7, but you will be surprised how stable it is - and how fun it is on the wave.

I could have taken out my 9'4 Acid, but I feel that my 8'7 Placid is a tad more stable, and much more fun on the wave.

Thanks to the total lockdown we're in, that will be my last surf for quite a while, so I will let you know what it is like trying to surf it at 110 kg...

I've not ordered the 8'7 yet.
Yesterday I got the chance to try a friends Fanatic Allwave 8'3 x 32, 120 liter (2015 model). There was a slight chop and it felt too small and unstable for me.
But I have no idea how the Allwave compares to the Placid.
Now I still wonder if the 8'10 wouldn't be the better board for my weight and skills?

Alex , the bevel rails of F-One boards are a joy in clean conditions but in MHO a nightmare when shop start..( i have an fone manawa) so the placid will definitly be more stable volume for volume ...the 8.10 placid is really a big board even for you...even if hard in the begining its worth struggling a bit . Beside i found the fanatic more unstable than the sunova for equal volume , my humble opinion...

Alex, the general rule is 6 to 8 weeks from time that you pay for the order.
Shipping by Air freight is usually a few days.
They come well boxed and protected, but I always advise people to cut the board out of the box before signing the shipping slip.
