Well my placid arrived today ...so got the word ,picked it up ,grabbed a legrope string and knife ,so freight shed ,then straight to the surf ,
surf was not good ,light on shore ,chest high ,but a wave ..

so after unpacking ,rope on ,straight to the water ,5 fins supplied ,so thought ...small surf go twin ,with small middle ,
10,5 side bites 6,4 rear .

jumped on ,first feel was ,yeah its still a short board ...
didn't feel 31,5 wide ,as the tail is narrow ,so still had some wobble about it .
first wave ,it closed out so spun off it ,wow this thing turns ...yeow .

second wave a racer ...it was bumpy too ...but these new rails are SICK ..so smooth and forgiving in choppy face waves ...and the tail ,just bites in ...i rode it on the tail pretty much for all the waves ...

i left with a grin ..thinking how would i explain this board in a few words
PLAYFUL .NICE IN ROUGH WAVE FACES ,great turner ...

the rails on this board ..are the surf candy for me ....i could really throw it around on crappy waves ...it just didn't want to bury the rail at all

so far very happy ...as a semi twin set up ..and has lots more ,other fin options to explore ...great add to the quiver .

in two words ,FUN BOARD .

Looks nice! What do you mean by 'can't bury the rail'? The first part read like it had low rails, but then to not bury it im assuming they have some volume in them?

ive been searching for the 'bury the rail' on my new board, which it does, but the rails are like surfboard thin!

ok ...lets say catch the rail ...you know in chop with some boards you have to ride it on the tail ,to keep the nose trim up

the underneath of the rail is round and thin ...i am just comparing it with the 8,7 flow or 9,1 acid ,in choppy conditions .

it does seem a little slower to ride ,but very happy in the pocket ,early days yet ...one surf only ...but so far ,i like it .

i will take a picture tomorrow of the rails ,so you can see what i mean ...i hope Bert makes a vid explaining it ...

Awesome sounds good! The rails on my flash were also a revelation to me. The subtle ridge on the underside 'to keep them from getting sucked in to the wave' made so much sense after riding it. It likes to go up and down, rather than down the line so much.

Hows the rocker of the placid?

I've had a board before which had a fuller style nose and a double flyer thinned our tail, which was great on a wave but sucked for stability (front to back), how's the placid in this regard?

check out this one ..it kinda explains the rounded rail

on the flow and acid ,they kinda have a edge on the underneath of the rail ,the placid is completely rounded ,with no shape edge .or rim .

it was great in mush ...can't wait to get it in real waves ...the extra width and 5 litres more over the 8,7 flow ,makes it way easier to use a 8,7 for my weight .it hasn't got the speed of the flow ,but it sure does make up for it ,once you start throwing it around ..real snappy .
love the tail ..it just works .
its a smooth ride ...
i love my new christmas present ..the mrs seen it on the roof too....wooh big fire...ha ha ...

hey Gambler ,2 really different board ..i like what both offer ...the Placid is more stabile 31,5 vs 30,25 ,and feel it can do sharper more snappy turns as a twin
yet to try it as a quad yet .I used the fin supplied ,they seem quite good and suited to the board ...which surprised me as i found ,i changed
fins for my other boards and it was better ,(smaller)

flow is a faster board ,ridden as a quad ,nice for power turns ,

i know i would probably surf longer on the placid ,as for lump me ,the flow takes more work .but still a great board .
I'm 5,10 ,and 95 kgs .and 50 ish .

Must admit I wondered whether the tail was a bit gimmicky but it sounds like it has a purpose.

and 131 litres ..

i had one for a year ...then moved to the 9,1 acid ,its more wobbly than the 8,10 flow .the acid has more performance .

The Creek is worthy of consideration.

130 - 135 litres seems to be my sweet spot though, and I like the quad option of the Flow.

Nice report Tardy.
I am still trying out my 8ft 10" Creek. Happy with its stability, paddle speed, wave catching ability & carving turns so far.
But have yet to get it onto head high quality waves to push it more.
But so far I know when you step onto that tail the magic happens like increase in speed, loosness with control.
But not really a mid board turner like the higher performance boards I would guess. But I think it will go great in overhead waves & sections where you need that down the line speed without the need to pump.
I don't think the Creek is a full on wave pocket performer like the Sunova Flash, Flow & Acid and also the now Placid.
Although as you know different fins & their placements can make a difference to what the surfer needs. This is where the Placid fin options come out on top for variety.

Just got the 8/7 myself and had a couple of sessions very small surf only so far. What I can say is that Marcus seems to of designed a one board quiver. This thing turns on a sixpence and that super thin low volume rail really grips well. Can't wait to get it out in some decent size waves. Running it in twin mode at the moment with the small centre fin and this seems great and keeps the board loose.

Went for the 8/7 as I have a infinity blind 8/5 in the quiver as well but would love to try the 8/3 Placid I bet it's a beast

yes if you want a shorter board with the 131 litres the flows a good option .

Had the twin set up this morning too out of control and too loose in size waves for me ,but did manage one hell of a off the top free fall ..measured the 83 rears supplied ,and they are same size as 7. FSC fronts .so wacked those in with some shaper 3 rears ,I use this combo on. The 8.7 flow ..report tomorrow ..hey sunny buoy the water was 25 degrees today at 8 am ..still a bit chilly ...

When riding it as a Tri fin did you try moving the front fins back a notch to the rear insert?

For what it is worth, thus far, I don't like the Placid... But it may just be me, and/or the conditions I have tried it in, and/or (quite likely) my choice of fins - the ones supplied.

I have only used it twice. Both times it was a bit lumpy, on-shore wind, and in shoulder high to over-head (just) waves. And both times the waves tended to be a bit full.

I am used to the Acid. I can turn the acid. It slices through the water. The acid is longer though, and I need to move my foot from rail to rail.

I just need to try smaller fins because both times I found it hard to turn, I had to brute-force it. I found that it liked going in one direction.

The first time I tried it as a thruster using the quobba fins. Yesterday I had 105 front and 83 read in quad (Sunnova supplied fins). Next time I will try the 83's up front and something smaller in the rear, or a twin with a small centre fin.

I had fun on it, and it is more stable than I expected, but I was frustrated.

I am not the best surfer, and am still coming back to full fitness, but still, I have been on my acids lately and still prefer them.

(I am 100 kg, 57, 6'3 and have the 8'7 placid and normally ride the 9'1 acid.)

Yes CSE, two totally different boards alright ..and I agree the acid cuts wave faces ...

the placid is more of a hotdog board ..always have a soft spot for the acid ..and is still great in bigger waves .
