Picked up my new Fanatic Allwave LTD Carbon recently from the crew at ESS Erina.

Went for the 7'11" x 31" @ 110litres.

Super fun, even better than I had hoped for, stable for size, paddles in easy, fast on wave, loose and skatey on fat sections, but can carve hard in steep sections with its nice thin rails, good for quick top turns, super responsive... And the list goes on..... I absolutely love this board and can highly recommend it

The three smaller sizes in the range are completely new and nothing like the thicker railed larger sizes and older models - they are nice and thin on the rails, lower in volume and all around better. Super light in carbon too

Hi, I'm 6ft and weigh between 80 -82kg.

I've surfed it in half foot tiny grovel up to solid 4ft, haven't had a chance to try it in any bigger yet.

i think it's ideal range is anything up to 3ft, and it absolutely rips in those conditions, at 4ft you definitely start to notice the width, but still completely manageable, you just need to work a bit harder with technique to get the best out of it in those conditions - you have to commit and go harder rail to rail, the thinner rails and lower volume really allow u to do this well.

At at the end of the day the shape is really a performance fish but with way more performance than any other short wide board I've ever ridden, in fact I rate the performance up there with boards with 29.5" to 30" widths which is what makes it so sweet - extra width for stability paddling out and in choppy or backwash conditions but performance on the wave and of course this really helps in those small conditions.

I demoed the 7'11 & 8'3 in fairly windy chest high surf a couple of weeks ago, I'm 82kg and 52 years old, I like a comfortably stable board & don't like having to work too hard at balancing when waiting for waves, so I quickly reached the conclusion that while the 7'11 would be fine for me on glassy days, it's too much work on windy days and currently I need a board that will be fun on windy days too.
So then I switched to the 8'3 & found a big increase in ease & stability - absolutely loved the 8'3
I had the old 8'6 allwave & can say that the new 8'3 is more stable, sits lower in the water and is therefore less affected by chop, plus it feels crisper carving turns with the thinner rails - definitely a big improvement on the old 8'6, just a really fun board to surf, demo if you can, coz I thought I wanted the 7'11, but now I want the 8'3

On a slight tangent - does anyone know if it is only the smaller sizes that have been refined down?

ie, are the 8'10" & 9'1" stil the same as the 2014 models?

Welcome to the breeze.
So I would say that compared to other boards of similar length it is very stable, but at your weight and height I would suggest possibly going the 8'3 if you are after that extra comfort factor in choppy conditions. If you are confident in your skills though maybe the 7'11 would suit. For me being 82kg and 6ft I've had the 7'11 out in rubbish onshore choppy backwashy conditions and only had the occasional fall in.

For me the 7'11 is the perfect fit, hope you find your perfect fit.

Are you able to demo a couple? that would definitely help.

Yep, only the 7'11, 8'3 and 8'5 are the new refined shapes. I have heard on the grapevine that they might be looking at refining the rest of the range next year -but who really knows what they will actually do.

As far as I know the 8'11 and bigger are based on last years shapes.

Thanks a lot for helping out, 8'3 sounds a sensible choice then. Always hard to choose just one board for all conditions. From the dimensions I was leaning towards the 8'3, would have somehow preferred the slightly narrower width of the 7'11 though.

I could keep my 9'1 and use the 7'11 for glass, but knowing me I'd be reluctant to use the old heavy tanker with the ltd. sitting in the van...

Can't demo, only know the 9'1 and 8'11 Allwaves and tried Prowaves 8'5 and 8'10 on our river wave in Munich, but the line up is solid ground, no chop

Also, what level would you say your skills are, to be able to ride the 7'11'?

I haven't ridden that HRS model, but in demoing other HRS v Carbon Fanatics (The pro wave) I find the speed and responsiveness is substantially better with the carbon, it must be a combination of the weight and flex pattern. I had a quick look at the HRS the other day in the shop and I was glad I got the carbon. The obvious benefit is the weight but and added responsiveness will be much appreciated. In saying that, If you can't afford the LTD - the HRS would still be a sweet board! In terms of ability I would say I am advance and find the 7'11 no great challenge with stability. With you coming down in volume and size from the 9'1 I would say the 8'3 would probably be the better option for you - there is nothing more frustrating than be under boarded and struggling. If you get a chance to demo them both, go for it, it's the only way to truly know.

They only come with "Future" fin boxes.

I've ridden the Naish 7'10x32, wasn't a fan - really small sweet spot to stand when paddling and just seemed a bit limited.
Also rode the Starboard Airborne 7'10x 30.5, again similar to the Naish but felt nicer on the wave than the Naish, quite good performance but won't carry you through those dead sections like the Allwave does.

At the end of the day the Fanatic was a much better all round option for me, suiting small mush up to decent size waves. It paddles in really nicely with good glide for a board so short, nice and stable with a rounder nose than the other two boards. The thin profile and rails is really what sets this board apart - giving it the performance that takes a short stubby board and makes it turn really nicely.

I also previously owned a JP Surf Wide Pro 8'2x32 and that was a really nice fun board but with the volume(124litres) and 32'' width it did become a handful in anything over 3ft, I would imagine that the new Allwave 8'3 would outshine that board and be really fun for someone if they thought the 7'11 Allwave would be too small.

Not sure, haven't weighed it, my scales are broken. I think I remember someone saying a bit over 7kg's. Whatever it is, it feels pretty light. If I find some scales that work I'll weigh it and post it.

I just weighed mine, with fins and leg rope, it was still slightly wet as well and was 7.5kg on the dot.

If you factor in +/- 6% both weights could be correct.

Also ride a wood 8'6 pro wave and wondered if the 7'11 would be as stable and also as nibble in the surf.
Any feed back would help me decide which to trade

Hi Muzzy, if I was u I would ditch your 8'6 and just run an 8'0 pro and 7'11 Allwave combo, ride the 8'0 when it's perfect conditions or bigger surf and run the allwave in small surf of choppy conditions. That's my 2 cents.
