Hi boys,
Some of the 2014 models are starting to show up on videos and contests, and there's already some hearsay about the new boards.
I read somewhere that Sean Pointer is riding a 7'4" x 28 1/2" x 3.4".
Zane took what seemed like a super narrow surfboard looking kid of SUB to the invitational contest on that wave pool and now Benoit Carpentier releases this video:
Hey guys,
I just had the chance to check out the 2014 Starboard's Product Guide and I can tell you it is INSANE.
Some news on what concerns to construction of boards and shapes, but what really caught my attention was the new paddles and the racing range.
Obviously there are some very interesting news on the SUP Surfing range as well!!!
Did I said INSANE?
Just freaking out because the boards will only get to Portugal by next February... ![]()
I honestly think that when the boards get down to this small a size, that the SUP surfing loses its asthetic appeal. Just my opinion.
Yep agree completely Zeusman.Prone shortboarding with a paddle. But then again I am a longboard tragic.![]()

Hey mate, where did you source the 2014 guide?
Cheers Ozzie
I've had a very good look through the new guide and even placed my order for a new board which will hopefully be arriving in Octobe (sorry Johnny).

And where would I be able to source said new guide from?
My french is terrible but I think I may have heard something like 24" wide.
Yes, he says it is the 2014 7'1" x 24", for riders less than 70kg
Just like it is good to have performance 31" wide boards for the heavyweight olders guys like myself, it is good to see some boards also designed especially for light young athletes, kids and girls... I hope that once the sports matures, everybody will be able to get a board adapted to his/her level, size and expectations...

Drop into your local Starboard dealer and they might be able to shed some light on it for you. If I tell you anymore I would have to kill you.
What Colas and Surf4Fun said.
There's a 7'1x24 and I can't share the guide or else i'll be a dead man!!
What someone said about the widepoint 8'2 is also spot on.
And there will be a board to smash the competition on the unlimited class me thinks!!!

Haha that could be interesting. Unfortunately I was able to tell my local more info than he to me. Will have to contact my "insider" ![]()
Hi had a glimpse today there are only 2 x new shapes the surf range the 8'2 and 9'5 widepoint didn't take much notice of the pro range
I ordered my 2014 carbon all star 12.6 x 25.5 last week.
should get it in october.
it looks very nice! mainly darkblue with red stripes and red logo!
they also have an all star with the same length and width but with a lot less volume. 218L I think it was.
it's called the turtle bay if I remember correctly.
until I get the new board I will enjoy my SB race 12.6 x 27.5 ast!
cheers

Yes I agree, no flow and less rail!.
I honestly think that when the boards get down to this small a size, that the SUP surfing loses its asthetic appeal. Just my opinion.

Actually, I think this is more the result of the "evolutive pressure" from contest judgement criteria which favor a lot of quick turns, even if they end up in "dishpanning" and speed-killing. Free SUPers on short boards can be as smooth and rail-commited as they want, especially since they do not have to slightly "stall" mid-turn to manage the length of a board. On a shorter board, you can commit yourself more in turns, since the natural turn radius of the board is shorter... but I reckon it is harder to do as things happen so fast.
Plus, of course, the fun is on the inside :-)
Anyone know why the 14' All Stars are such a big design change for 2014? More volume, wider tail, piercing nose?
anyone know if the 2014 all stars non carbon boards are the same colour scheme as the carbon (blue tint) ???
to me the new colours really make the boards look unreal. and the non carbon board at under 2 grand for a 14foot seems like a really good buy. wasn't a fan of the 2013 grey/silver paint
Hi AndyR,
Been to Starboard's international meeting my mind has been blown away with the new race boards.
From what they told us all the boards will be in light blue, or at least the color of the carbon boards will be lighter than the first ones we've been seeing.
Another thing is the weight. The epoxy sandwich construction is really light. In fact, the weight difference between the epoxy sandwich boards and the carbon boards should be about one kilogram. Of course the carbon boards were non production and they will become lighter, but i'd say the epoxy ones should be about 11-12 kgs.
Stability has also improved heaps. I weight next to 100 kgs and Im getting a 25 1/2" wide Allstar. If I was getting a sprint, I'd go with the 24" version.
Amazing boards.
I was going to get some carbon boards and I think that the decision will no longer be made on weight but on flex.
I have a 14ft Sprint and a 12.6 Allstar on order but i,m told that they are delayed till januari because of some minor changes they wanna make.
I Ordered a Sprint14x26 because I think the extra stability over the 24 makes me faster and a Allstar12.6x26.5, because I liked the12.6x26 2013 soo much.![]()
And can you tell what different on the new paddles, because I need a new racepaddle as well.
Right now i have a QB Magic90 wich is fine but hust too short and I think i can get away with a slightly bigger blade as well.
Saw some of the new race boards in the Starboard camp at the BOP. The 12'6" x26" Allstar seems to have been replaced by the flat deck x25.5" Turtle Bay model. The other new 12'6"s have a lot more volume for 2014. I liked the looks of the Turtle Bay, but was warned by a Euro Team rider that they are much tippier then the cut out deck boards. Interesting that in the quest for racing dominance, Starboard has gone to the piercing nose for 2014, but NSP, Fanatic and even Bark are showing the bulbous nose like the Starboards of old. I'm not claiming anyone was first with what design or which one is the best, I'm just excited to see what happens next.
That's a really good point baddog.. Some of the other brands are taking on the big boof nose like the starboards of old but they have decided to go with the piercing noses.. Who knows what is the better option?? I think we need to see kai n Connor time trail all board and brands for us all to see what really is the best design ??
