all good mate a few points to consider though. The OP started this thread about Gulliver boards and their quality. People have been giving their opinion on that.

Killing the industry? how? and what makes them worse and what boards are better? .....if you are talking about shape and surfing performance then a custom SHOULD beat them every time....if its about strength and quality of construction then some customs have fallen short of these pop out brands....this I know from my and mates direct experiences.

regarding the asp pro tour and long board tour......I think your in the wrong froum for that one....and to compared that is certainly not apples to apples....being a pro, getting boards for free and having them replaced for free is worlds away from the requirements of the average punter here...ie for a pro, as long as it goes great in the surf is the #1 priority and longevity would be a distant 2nd.

mate you can get customs way stronger than any pop out hands done everytime you just have to ask or let the shaper no you want it bullet proof and it will still be lighter than the pop out! The thing is most guys order a custom want it light and then wonder why is not as strong as a 13 kilo pop out? Silly really if you want it bullet proof speak up is easy. Pop outs have way more warranty issues but thats china good one day not the next

Yes and no... Yes I agree that customs can be made built proof strong...but not anything like 50% stronger for even 30% less weight for the same dimenson/shape boards... MY 10.7 popout wasnt even 13kg. MY 8.8 is 9kg (popout)

when there are as many customs on the water as there are popouts then lets see the number of issues....

Is there even a warranty on a custom? I dont think thats something shapers are use to giving on SB or Long boards??? kinda goes with surfing etc...

Are those with customs speaking about the dings etc as much as the people with popouts?? I think most that own a custom have knowledge of what to expect and just cop it on the chin...

i really only care about high performance boards and dont want to get drag into any debate here on what vs what or what is stronger i basicaly care about how well my board performance on a wave is and no that its way strong enough have a good day champ

I understand your performance criteria for a sup and would expect no less from a custom shaper. If you dont want to get draged in to the debate dont lasso yourself to it

yeah its all good just gotta understand when you have been in the game as long as i have you have seen alot and actualy have experienced the surfboard industry first hand and no the benifits and down falls of surfboard construction first hand not just guessing or by going off other peoples options would love to have a bate or chat or whatever first hand face to face over 6 beers or so but not on an open forum where its easy to take coments outta context or not fully understand ones veiws.

Gday guys, I'm new here to seabreeze and came across this forum feed and have something to offer..I in fact recently (Nov 2010) bought one of the Gulliver SUPs from a bloke on the Goldy and had it freighted over here to WA. It was a steel! I don't consider myself an advanced SUP rider however I am far from novice being involved in surf related wind and surf sports for 35yrs. I own a 12ft Laird and along with my 10'6 Gulliver. The Gulliver surfs loose, I find it easy to turn. I like the rocker its not to flat but is still good for paddling between waves and in the flat, I love it. I have snapped and damaged my fair share of craft in my time so I asked about the glass prior to purchase. I can confirm its got 3 layers of 6 ounce and mine also has the bamboo veneer so its super dooper strong. I accidently dropped the Gulliver off the roof in the wind, have run over a of rocks on the point and taken some big thrashings down south on sizable waves. Its turned out to be quite durable. I always get asked where I got it from. I'm stoked to be one of the only SUP riders to have a Gulliver over here...Happy SUPPING!

Best thread in ages. Would love to pull it apart, point out the trolls, errors, incorrect assumptions etc but I have promised myself to behave. So.. I will, would love to see this one continue though, very entertaining.
