blueplanetsurf said..We used the smaller Ke Nalu Iwa 580 foil wing towing into some big rollers on a big, glassy swell day on Oahu's North Shore. The foil felt great, very balanced. The smaller wing size was good at the higher speeds of these fast moving waves. A longer mast would have helped, the foil breached easily and we had a lot of high speed wipeouts, that's why we are not doing a lot of turns, just going straight and and trimming the foil took full concentration and focus. We started feeling a bit more comfortable towards the end of the session, here is a gopro video of some of our better rides.
I'm sure I read that they will be releasing various mast length options and it looks like they might be needed.
It looked to me like you guys had some kind of extension/packing between the mast and board as it was? and you still looked very tentative getting it up and flying.
I haven't really tried Sup foiling yet except for for a couple of little goes on a mates, however I did borrow his Mololo set up and try it on my kite board.
The mast length is I think 55cm (maybe 60), which is roughly half the length of my KFA kitefoil mast.
See the photo of them both side by side.
For kiting, although some very short masts are used for learning, I think the generally used lengths start at around 70cm (free ride) and go up to 110cm+ for racing.
This is so they can be layed right over to go upwind without breaching.
So I am just wondering what people's thoughts are on what will be the generally accepted lengths for Sup masts and will that differ for surfing faster waves, slower fatter waves and downwinding?
