wanted to share this. It's the first (that I know of) electric bolt on propella for a prone foil board

me riding the waves.
I have no affiliation and was not paid to do this. I was just offered a go and thought it was great. It was developed by a really nice guy I met at my beach.

Looks fun... but I was a bit terrified by using an unguarded propeller in the midst of other people!

Could you not find a more deserted place?
The goal of a motorized foil is to be able to enjoy waves not catchable normally, not going in the midst of a proper crowded peak...

Not really a problem with the boost when you can take off miles from other surfers. Also, it all very light. I would say a stand up paddle board is way worse if you are unlucky enough to get hit.

The Stoke boost motor looks great. Will be awesome for downwind beginners.
Colas there are plenty of dangerous things in the water here in Oz. Sharks, Stingrays, Jettyfish, Crocs, Bogans, Budgie Smugglers a few grumpy old guys on Long boards. A motorised electric blender should keep us safer. But In all seriousness I try to keep my E-toys at least 200 metres away from other water users. No one likes getting buzzed in a lineup by Marty McFly on his new Hoverboard.

So whats the diff in engineering and design to say the foil assist?

The biggest breakthrough compared to the foildrive is swing weight and connectivity.
the battery is right in front of the propella. At the centre of the foil board's weight. So it doesn't increase the swing weight by much at all. it has a small cable that connects to an aerial on the nose of the board. The Ariel is the size of a cigarette lighter.
the foil drive has its battery in a box. The box needs to have line of sight to the Controler and not be underwater. So the only place to put it is the nose. This adds massive swing weight and ends up under your chin.
so for prone foiling, the boost is the only propella I have seen that works. on another note. I have an efoil. The boost is not an efoil. I would not go anywhere near the breaking waves on my efoil.

So hang on - where is this battery - ? Below deck ? How is that possible? Think some pics are in order maybe. Fascinating. Sounds very promising indeed man. Keen to know more.

i can tell you I am 75kg and used it for an hour. I used the low power mode to paddle out. But I still paddled. And the medium power to catch waves. But is still paddled. I had 15% battery left at the end

This bloke below is 90kg and didn't paddle anywhere. Didn't even paddle to catch a wave. I recon he would have chewed through a battery in no time. Luckily, to replace the battery is quick. screw off. Screw on

So concievably you could use it to get up in foil then pump out to a break??

Id liked to personally see how the weight and COG effect pump and link overall. Its that damn battery weight hey . breakthrough in light weight battery tech and its on !!!!



that cable that runs to the aerial at nose of board . does it run under the board - along side rail?

Looks great for SUP DW, but I dunno how I feel about having that prop sticking off the back of my mast on a low volume prone. You should check what a foil drive prop did to a good foiler on the fbook group. Shredded his knee up real good. I'd be wearing a cup and chain mail over my femoral haha.

you can definitely pump with it. I am not a very good pumper but still managed to connect waves.
the cable to the aerial runs in stick-on clips under the board. It's about 2mm thick. I didn't notice it.
I don't know how that guy cut himself on the prop. I only pull the trigger when I'm lying on it and let go as soon as a pop up or fall off. I feel safe with this

As we don't have any information like thrust and battery capacity yet why do you think Foildrive is the choice. This certainly has had a lot more engineering and has a sealed motor among other things. I can see pros and cons of both but if this produces similar thrust and runtime then I see this having a few more pros. Time and testing will tell.

but for the specific prone surf application - on the same sized board we would normally use . id say the FA from an engineering point of view seems more limited to me for connection issues and battery weight distribution.. If you want to pump that is.

The lack of thrust ratings or expected battery life on both their website and the video reviews is baffling.I'm a new owner of a FDA+ (for learning proning, winging, efoil, pump practice) I like the all in one nature of this product but without the above specifications it makes the most obvious of comparisons hard

I'm pumping a 20l board with foil drive 85kg. And using it for prone training. I would love to consider getting a stoke, but right now we have no idea what the battery life is compared to the fd. As well as thrust. Apparently the first gen stoke isn't as powerful as the foil drive according to Mr. Zed (he said u can't efoil in flats) . So we have to wait for the g2 version just like the foil drive assist plus. I would be the first customer once we see a stoke that is the same thrust and battery power as the fd.

Swing weight on foil drive is an issue unless you cut into the deck grip and install on side of the front foot. This solves the swing weight problem by 80%. It's tricky for new users but for seasoned users it's super easy. I can pump 2 min using foil drive on my 40L board with small battery. Longer now that I'm on the 20l.

Yes I can pump 2 minutes on this setup with 1300 and 21L board. I've linked 3 waves effortlessly in the surf with the motor off. I could probably do much more if I had more opportunities to play with it in the waves. I am primarily using the small battery for dedicated pumping sessions which is very limited in battery life, but makes the swing weight almost negligble. On the large heavy battery, I can pump for around a minute. Key is the side placement of the box, it needs to be as far back as possible to reduce swing weight, in this position in my photo my back foot is nearly touching it and my front foot is slightly over the top of the box to the side.

How do you lay on the board with the battery box where it is ?

got and vid of you linking waves and actually on the wave. Ive yet to see a prone surfer carve well / look comfortable on a wave when using a FD.

Is this one of his online courses? I've used my foildrive on my 3 boards (prone 36L, wing 85L, downwind sup 120L)I can get it up on foil easily enough on all 3 boards but would be interested in the best way to utilise it for getting better at prone.

Nice thanks heaps. Still looks awkward to me. Meaning i dont see much difference anymore guus supping with them or without. Same turns, same balance. Still looks damn awkward on a prone to me.
