Love this foil. was out in knee high waves in my local lake entrance. No probs getting it up & running.
Then the high tide deleted the waves so went out the entrance into heavier seas.
Caught the whitewash of a few overhead waves. So really the whitewash was only between knee & waist high on a rebuilding wall. Which sent me flying. Making me put all weight forward after the lift. Got smashed after a few breaches. And got one all the way to shore that had me bail out of the shore dump just in time. Magic!
This was on the large foil with large tail wing that I couldn't control the previous week. So getting the hang of it!
Looking forward on getting the medium wing for big waves.

Yeah I did try the smaller tailwing the previous week Piros. In smaller waist high waves at another beach. Even then it had a lot of lift but was easier to level out.
I would have had the smaller tail but was too long a paddle back to my car to put it on.
It was just a spare of the moment thing to paddle a little way around the breakwall to go from 1 to 2ft waves to overhead 6 ft waves. So was good fun to try & see how it handles. Pleasantly surprised.
My ambition is to foil a reef break by catching the edge of its whitewash all the way to shore. So not sure if the medium wing will give me the speed to keep going or the large to keep on the swell. Yet to experiment with the tail wing shims too.
I'm sure I need the medium to complete my quiver for what I need.
One guy I know on a prone go foil kai was flying on flat water close to this reef break. So much speed! And a good long run!

Yeah you find that bigger foils don't always get you the furthest. While they provide more lift they also create more drag . I first saw this 6 months ago when the young foil frothers we're pumping circles around me on Naish mediums. You need the big wings to build on your rhythm & flow , once you get that comes the pump. Then you can start dropping down in wing size and your foiling becomes faster we're you are creating even more speed from your turns .
Im trying to speed up this process by avoiding riding my big wings all the time , the smaller wings take a bit more work and you can become lazy but it pays dividends.

This also relates to down winding the guys that started on the Gofoil 280's quickly dropped to the 200 & now downwinding on the IWA . Having said that don't try and learn to DW on a IWA you will just be ocean flotsam drifting around . You need to start on as big a wing you can get your hands on.

Thanks Piros. I am no where near that yet. Still got to learn the pump & turns. But looking forward to reading & connecting waves whilst foiling the surf. Just can't wait for my next sessions!

I sup on a Starboard Hypernut 7'2 x28 @105liter, not so easy when it is choppy @ 190 lbs
Would it be wise to get the JP Foil 7'0 x 28 @ 115 liter and the NP Foil Large to learn to foil?
Or should I start on something larger?

Great review Piros & you can tell you are stoked with the product... Nothing new in the board shape & design as there is a couple of brands doing exactly that or similar with their shapes but agree with what you are saying although the boards are expensive... Good price for the foil even though it's aluminium but GoFoil have now released the IWA kit (in Carbon) for $1590AUD & looks like GoFoil are going "Modular" so you can add wings at a later date instead of having to buy a twin or triple kit...

A 7'8 x 29 Slate Foil would probably have been a safer choice but you have to dive in at the deep end...

Its been great not having to worry too much about the left right balance & being able to keep my focus on not breaching the foil.
Its amazed me how the large wing can handle fair sized waves where just not long ago after being bucked off within a second of my first attempt at a sizeable wave I thought it was going to be impossible with so much lift.
My last few sessions I have had some amazing & crazy rides especially at maxed out speeds that have been on waves at head high.
I definitely know now that the NP foil is a keeper. Cant get enough of it.
The only problem with NP is the purchase of spare wings etc. Seem to be sold out everywhere.
I have got the medium wing on order but wondering when it will be available.
Not that I am in a hurry as I am still learning on the large wing. But cant wait to try the medium on a good long running big wave.

Seajuice yes everything went straight out the door that was pre odered new stock on the way , I'm not sure on time frames.

Has the JP Foil have inserts for a front footstrap only?
And does it come with footstrap(s) ?

It has strap mounts front and back but does not come with straps , any kite or windsurf straps will fit .

Great, I am not thinking of using straps, they probably are not in the right place for windsurfing, but eva foot hooks seem to be a good idea....

You won't want footstraps for windsurfing with "this type board" in my opinion.

With the foil mounted way forward for SUP use, it turns your windsurf foilboard into a better wave riding or freestyle foilboard.

You'll be on extra small sails, with a very free and fun surfing board that flies with far less board speed than a traditional windsurf foilboard, with foil mounted on the tail, using faster wing designs.

I injured my foot 2 days ago because I couldn't get it out of the footstraps (windsurfing )
I prefer not using footstraps and this should be possible because I will only be windsurfing in light winds with a Large NP Foil.

I have Simmer Blacktips probably not as light as your Naish Lifts but they will have to do for now

A good 4 more days foiling on the Neilpryde Large wing & tail from knee high in the lake entrance to waist / shoulder high waves & whitewash from just overhead waves off the beach leading into deeper water.

Rule number 1. Don't mount a camera on the front of your board unless you are willing to lose or damage it like I did from the foil breaching. Smashed the housing open with my knee, (minor cut & bruise), & waterlogged the camera. Lucky I got one shot of my first wave after retreiving the sd card from it. Lol!

Rule number 2. When the foil breaches & flings you forward try to bail out to the side. Not easy cause it happens in a split second. The foil will run into you from behind.

Rule number 3. Hands in front of face after you bail out doing a hard turn. I resurfaced & to my surprise I saw the front of my board coming at my face from only two feet away. The board & foil continues the turn until it hits you! Lucky I caught the boards nose. Haa!

And rule number 4. When off to the side of the board, keep your kicking legs away from the foil! I took a small chunck of skin off my shin when I accidently kicked the sharp trailing edge of the foil tail wing! Der!
Back to my car first aid kit, patched it & back in for more fun. Lol!

So in just 3 continuous days of foiling I received damage to my knee, shin, camera, board nose fcs plug camera mount. And a 5 inch long crack to the side of my board nose from a paddle strike.
All patched & ready to go again.

Classic Seajuice I remember all that . Re the camera leave it for now , Cameras on poles and even just a Go Pro deck mounted throw the balance point out. You will notice the difference if you remove a camera half way through a sesssion. I also got a serious cut from a camera under my armpit from going over the front. Plus it's distracting turning it on and off. Smashing it with your knee is common.

In the early days swim up to the board flat and pull yourself onto it like a seal to avoid kicking the foil and yeah cover up when you fall in front of the board , you never know what it will do.

As you get more experienced you become more aware of what the foil will do when you fall and which way it will go , but until then when you go in dive deep and stay down for a few seconds and open your eyes underwater before you surface to avoid swimming into it . Having the paddle out in front of you is a good trick.

I might add that after years and years of being told by new kiteboarding students that they have windsurfer wakeboarded surfed etc. so should be easy to learn kiteboarding.
And with an inward chuckle I'd answer "let's see".
Now with all my years of waterskiing windsurfing kiteboarding snow skiing etc. plus a few hours of foiling in waves with a kite and even with the kite offering more hiderance than help.
I just assumed picking up a paddle and heading out with foil attached would be easy.
then of course working out that standing on a board with a paddle is not so easy, let alone on unflat water.
not to worry it's bound to easier ditching the paddle and just surf.
again paddling in to catch a swell and getting to your feet maybe should be a skill I need to get first.
and a leg rope.
and maybe a real paddle, not click together boat oar.
And after doing that. Next time ill inwardly chuckle and say out loud "Let's see this time "

Yes Camarillo its a 7ft Coreban Hyper. It was one of my boards that I used the least because it was slow to paddle & slow down the line speed.
But a surfing mate of mine had the same board & for some reason said it would be good for a foil board. And this was just when foils were becoming popular on boards over 8ft long.
And now I am glad I use it for a foil board due to its shortness, nose rocker is great for recovering from a breach in small waves & I think the tail rocker may be excessive enough to clear the water when pumping.
The rails are fairly boxy to stop catching on a turn. The foil helps a lot to get the board up to clear the nose rocker from pushing water & accelerates it as if it was turbo charged.
But yeah, I doubt it can compete with the boards especially made for a foil. But for me at this stage its great! And lovin it.
As for coil leash. I think mine is 8ft & happy enough with it.
I tried a coil leash but it broke when fairly new.
I use a champagne cork about halfway along mine as it helps heaps from tangling around the foil.
Also very happy with my Gath helmet.

I wore the NP when kite foiling and did get some whiplash from the helmet mass in some high speed crashes. I switched to the Gath surf because it has less mass. It does work better duck diving waves too.

While the Gath costs more, I think it is a helmet you are more likely keep wearing after you get past beginner status. That's a good thing.

I have been using the same gath hat for over 20 years now mostly for sun protection.

gath also good for winter warm and ear infection.
