Well the time has come for myself Chris and Sue to to sail from Sydney to Redcliffe, weather permitting, this Thursday.A non stop sail, and if Chris's yacht sails really fast, well something just might have to be done so the cavalier stays in front heading north.
And the looser puts up drinks and cooks dinner that night.lol.

All is looking good to get away next Tuesday and head north. Even the weather gods look to be playing ball. 15 to 20 knot southwesterly. High tide at Wide bay bar is late afternoon, so should make a pleasant day sail from Redcliffe . Is there anybody else heading up to the bar next week?

Probably Tuesday week over the bar , and then to the Bunker group.

yep that series is the best.
Seabreeze weather has shown alot of swell around Cairns

Toph the wind observations on the cape this week have been the highest recorded since 4th June. Pop into Cooktown or hide behind a island for a few days it should settle down in the next few days.

Southace, was going to go Port Douglas to Lizzard but ducked into Walker Bay just south of Cooktown last night. Bit blowy and rolly but secure. I was planing on staying there tonight too to wait out the winds but at about 9 o'clock decided to give it another shot. Was a plesant enough sail heavily reefed but gave the idea of going all the way through another miss as it would've meant getting in just after dark (wife's restriction is no night approaches and anchoring). So we are tucked in at Cape Bedford nice and early. Still windy at 22kts (in a lull ) but secure and not too roley. At least the sun has finally come out.

Are the coral cayes really worth seeking shelter from?? Even the best of them look very exposed.

Cape Bedford I have been tucked in there a few times. Might as well go to lizard for a quick look if time permits. I have done Bedford to Lizard in 15 to 20 knots anymore than that stayput where you are. Some go to cape flattery and then head out to Lizard.
I'm nearly 200nm North on the oposite side of the Cape to you ATM and today the airport observations where showing Due East 15 to 20 .....first due east for about 20 days.
Once you get to lizard and start heading up the coast your heading will be more northerly so life should get better! Don't forget to trawl the Mackrell lines with wire traces!

There is no real overnight anchorages behind cays or islands between you and lizard. We checked them out last August. Lots of bommies and exposed.

Our little Compass Northerner 28 has made it to Mooloolaba today. Heading to wide bay bar Monday.

A pretty fast sail from Scarborough Boat Harbour today.

Hope to meet some other 'Breezers up North.

Yes but be prepared to move if the weather changes. Between the two anchorage marks is safe unless the wind goes North east like it did when we where there after midnight. Google earth is also your friend.

Yeah ive been looking at it closely. Mostly for the surf. Alan lucas says you can anchor in there but its not comfortable but stern to waves is some respite. I've just spent all night looking google earth. Its soo good and helpful. Been studying the coastline alot.

I can recall the surf was further towards the point area....stern to waves sounds horrid but won't judge old Alan on his advise. My Spanish mate sailed back to Moolabar due to engine failure when the wind swung northish and I continued to line up to cross the bar at sunrise with a rising tide and a bottle shop that was opening at 10am!

Haha. Yeah i guess if weather changed to a northerly youd be a bit stuffed.

I found a cheap antenna/booster. Ill get this and raise it up mast sometimes if needed.

Regarding telstra im not sure if its really a better network. I switched from optus recently and where there were dead spots near where I live with optus its the same with telstra. The other week sleeping aboard i was trying to tether in syd harbour to stream a movie but the reception was crap. We used my partners phone which is optus that worked well. And dont get me started on the scam thats the nbn!
In the last 5 min i turned the 4 g off and am on 3g. Its working better on 3g
