The last "cyclone that wasn't a cyclone" smashed a bunch of yachts/power boats/hulks from their moorings out the front where my boat is. Blew gigantic trees down in the back yard, and messed the place up...and it wasn't even a proper cyclone. What's going to happen this time? Poor boat owners up north!!! Here we go again.

Thanks McNaughtical, at present Im on boat (house is insured but boat only 3rd part) that were priorites are. Cyclone itselfe is not much of a worry. Predicted 2.5 surge over high tide is a worry. in the past on high tide i have seen only foot of poles above water. if top of the poles will go under loop may come of too and sayonara. I did riged lines secured to the top of the poles and wip end on the boat to control position of the boat if loops come off. Pictures of my last resort included. Lucky i got wichard snap shackles to free boat if it will bigin to be pull down (when loops will not slip from the poles). Anchor is ready to be deployed as well. Let hope it is only over reaction. As I live in north Queensland I am a little aware of the situation.

Look after your boats but most of all, look after yourself and your loved ones.

I have posted about this elsewhere but the cyclone is not your only problem. Beware of looters and the low life scum bags that will take advantage of the situation at your expense.

If you need to make an insurance claim after the event, play hard with the insurance company you are dealing with. They will rip you off in every possible way.

If you have time. Get your camera and photograph all your valuables. Get the serial numbers too if you can.

It will help a lot in an insurance claim.

Do this even if your not in the path of Marcia as you never know what lies ahead.

Thanks DrRog, in my case it is impulse, instinkt not the knowledge what to do (first time in my life). Latest pics: it is 35min to high tide, will it continue to rise after 10:11 ?

Holy crap mate.

Thats come up quite a bit in the period between your posts. Just need to hope that the receding tide goes out quicker than the river rises and any storm surge.

Tide came in two feet higher than its ever been and stayed in all day where I was during Oswald. Strangest thing ever. Hope you go ok manitulak.

Thanks Franrick and brizzydave, photo where only half of the "D" is visible was made at 10:11 ( high tide) now is nearly an hour after and water lower level is obvious. Other boats were just lucky water did not rise any higher (as on the pics), caption under those pics shall be "another foot and something will go snap". Thanks the panick is over. You only get one chance in these situations. The difference between outright panic and calmly using your level head to deal with any problem, is the preparation that you did prior to the storm. Congrats on making it out the other side...

Thanks Toph, so high water part is over but there is next part: low water. Preps I did made for HW now must be changed to LW sytuation. If I do not undoo top pole line boat will be "hanged". Top line now is secured to pul/push pits by bungee rubber to allowe line relise as the boat will go down and at the same time be ready for HW at 22:36 , tide is going to be 0.4m less but how much to this will be added from catchment area is only guess. Looks like night on the boat, yyeppeee. Chez.

I see tonights predicted tide is 400mm less than todays. Hopefully the run off from the rain doesn't put it above what you've already experienced. Sorry to suggest it could get worse but it may give time for preparation to prevent the caption "another foot and something will go snap" coming to pass. It seems Manitulak is on the ball but other boat owners could be under a false sense of security thinking the worst is over. Hopefully I'm wrong.

thinking of you Manitaluk... will be a long wet night for you. Good plan to stay on your boat I'd say.

Fortunately the worst of it has now passed. I have had a couple of tense nights aboard Second Wind at anchor in the Burnett Heads basin.

I let out another 8 metres of chain and stayed aboard to monitor for dragging. The only thing I could have done if she did drag was start the engine and reduce pressure on the tackle.

My wind meter recorded up to 32 knots (60 kmh) winds and it was a fairly constant 25 knots all night.

Going back down this afternoon and may spend the night again. Cheers.
