They are really good at tearing through the antifoul and not damaging the undercoat, it was more effective where the antifoul was thicker, giving the scraper a better edge to get under. It wasn't a true test for the tool, as I was only using it on the crazed/brittle sections of antifoul.

also theres technique to it. lifting the scraper up just below horizontal and bending the blade back seem to be the best angle for me. although doing this will also take the undercoat with it I think. anyway play with the angles and you will find a sweet spot that just rips through the paint. go to shallow and it seems to skim over and not grab the paint.

good luck with your stripping its still a nasty job no matter what technique you use.

My mooring is in a strong tidal river as well. I used the Hemple semi hard which is still an ablative. Looked good for 3 months then rapidly deteriorated.

strange as I got 15 months on mine with only a thin film of slime, although it was the soft alabative. anyway I guess 12 - 18 months time will be conclusive. if it comes out clean again then im sold. if its a encrusted then I guess I got lucky the first time and will goto something else.

I bought my Hemple antifoul from Bias in Sydney. They had just started selling it and it was good value, same price as the other but 5 litres instead of 4. Hemple had just taken over Blakes paint company which have been a good British paint company especially for antifoul. My tins were made in Singapore. The trouble with antifoul paints is the variation in batches. I went out to the local Jotun factory in West Sydney one year to pick up some antifoul paint and was not impressed when talking to the "specialists". I have had some poor performing Jotun as well. I always liked to sift through the cans at the coop and pick the heavier cans.
