Went down to the boat to check the engine and found 3 broken engine mounts one left lucky me not going out in 4 m and 40knots Coral Sea chop again. More money to burn and tomorrow try to fix I need a little help with this one, engines are not my skill set, can it be the initial installation? of the engine I was knocked flat on the last sail could that of caused the damage?

all Ive found out so far is caustic soda will remove the color from anodizing.
Anodizing also is absorbed into the aluminum by 10 % so sanding anodizing back to bare aluminum is out of the question
Do not want to loose 10 % of my masts
So for me its a sand clean and probably a two pack primer

When you take the masts off her are you going to replace the standing rigging

the fellow on the ketch I was talking to at Kettering last weekend said he did his own using Sta-Loc fittings www.stalok.com/ and said it was a fairly simple job

Are you intending to strip the rivited fittings of the masts and booms and duralac and refit them at the same time

Cant help with a choice of furlers

My Spacey has a furler but the Sailmaster is hank on

I dont actually mind the hank on and one old bloke who sails single handed out of here runs a light line from the head of the sail down through the hanks through the shackle at the tack of the sail and back to the cockpit and when he lets the halyard (that also runs back to the cockpit) go he pulls on the light line and this pulls the sail down on to the deck

I normally have someone else on the boat so i just get them to keep it head to wind and go forward and drag it down while keeping some tension on the halyard and tie it to the rail

I am trying to make do with what i have on mine because we still owe a bit one the house and my mrs would rather pay the house off than spend money on the boat that we would probly never get back if we had to sell her (or found something better that we like)

I have been told that this boat will have to do for the forseeable future and that i already spend enough on it for normal maintenance items

Probably the only thing i would not mind on mine is a wind direction indicator in the cockpit but for the moment i just rely on my ears and the windex at the top of the mast

We only fart around in the Huon and Channel area so we dont need a lot of fancy gear

What colour are you intending to do the masts ?

Once I get them home Ill try sanding back. As long as I get the main mast back on this year Ill be happy get every thing working right and a new furling Genoa set up and working .

Rather than sand all the way back to base alloy just sand enough to key the surface enough for paint to adhere to it. In areas where there is noticeable corrosion, those you will have to clean right back to bare metal and then treat. Don't make more work for yourself than what you need to.

Had to start work at 6 am got home a little while ago and started stripping one shutter spent about half hour so far .Lot more to do but Im happy far it will look nice with some Sikkens light oak when its finished
I guess south ace will be sun burnt by now. Theres plenty of chilblains down here if you get board south ace

Ive done 3/4 of the edges so far still this to go then a light sand and wash ready for some sikkens light oak if it looks ok after the wash and dry

It is a lovely winters day, at 1500 hrs current temp was 30.5 degree wind E at 8 knots.

I cant think of the name right now but the mizzen mast mount thought id place a mat over it to I did not stub my tow
Big mistake as I jumped down into the cockpit and ankle gave way it sore as
Had to make Patterson lakes before sun set no lights




So I guess you could say Ive off street parking now its a mill pond in there 5 mins from home Ill get a lot done now
