Good Morning all, I was browsing "seabreeze" for weather and incidentally stubbled upon the Topic Romance in your forums to which I quickly subscribed. I left Arcachon in France at the end of February and my ETA into Port Sydney should be 11 days, if the rest of my sails permit. I had few bashings on the way and my catamaran is in desperate need of repairs. Could I have some info about honest boat yards please.
I come to Australia to perfect my English, have a well deserved long brake, meet a lot of people with the same passion and drink the Australian wine.
I am looking forward to meet a lot of you, as being alone on a boat is not always ideal for an outgoing personne like me.

Hey Jane... I think that was a pretty good effort for a non native tongue. Probably better than some of the posters on here already! Certainly better than our utilisation of your language in the most...just ask me, after trying to translate my new boats original documentation... anyhow I digress.

Others with more experience will provide more information, but the port of Sydney (actual name, Port Jackson), is an expensive place for slipways and repairs. Maybe Port Stephens will be cheaper.

Tell us your age, gender, marital status, etc., and you will get many suggestions on how to make new friends in Australia. You already have a good start- you are a sailor!

For starters if you wanna do yard work and work on your boat DONT do it in sydney unless you wanna pay the very very most you could pay. Hard stand in sydney - even in pittwater is nearly 200 a day(for a 22 footer!) plus the haul in and out. If you are coming down the coast find a place that has reasonable hardstand/haul out costs. I dont know any but hopefully someone here will!

There are a lot of reasonable places to haul out in South East Queensland if you are coming down the coast. For a cat, Mackay, Maryborough, Coomera River all with repair people.

Gotta love that FreeRad.....Anyway I would suggest Newcastle for a much cheaper haul out.

Sam- Can you name the yard/s in Newcastle? That would be more convenient than Port Stephens, as is it is just a train ride away from most places in Sydney.

Dam everyone here has been cutting my lunch all day, welcome Miss lady Jane and which part of France are you from on which type of craft do you sail upon?

If it was me Id turn towards QLD and ask some of the sea breeze where to go for some maintenance maybe around Fraser Island or bunberburg and then sail up the Whitsundays and enjoy there winter sailing season ( 28 degree C) then go down the east coast and end up in Tasmania( January) for their summer months and cheaper moorings and marinas to do more maintenance .
Whats your opinion on that idea sea brezzers

It would be a lot warmer in central/ North QLD than NSW and lower latitudes and pricing should be lower also

My next door neighbour has a 47 footer and goes there to anti foul. I don't know
the name of the yard, but next time I see him I'll ask and post it.
He reckons a boat his size is just too expensive to work on down here. I've just
learned my local yard has stopped DIY weekends due to insurance problems.
What a pain.

where ever you sail the seabreeze will be quite happy to give you harbour entrance and also any current bar information

Which ones that? I did mine at quays in bayview. Good people . Limited to weekends only though fri arvo to sunday night. Basically you cant be there during opening hours except friday when theyre there having a beer.

HGO2, I am taking your advise, heading up 10 starboard to Southport. I found on the net a boat yard up the Coomera River,TKX Phoenix, called multihull solutions. Are they any good? Nice pictures too, thank you very much HGO2, but tell me, what is the G doing swimming in water, this one flew over my head.
Southace, she is a 49 home build on carbon fibber injection technology and Catalina drawings. The difference with the standard 47 Cat is that the bow emergency exits have been omitted during construction and the hatchs are wider on both hulls. Both front cabins are used for sail storage and water tight compartments. The mast is CF 1.2 metres longer than the Cat47 and the rigging is totally different and the running stuff is all controlled from the cockpit, she is light and fast. The hulls did not suffer any damage as they are build like a "brick poo house"(I did not want to say ****). I lost the genoa halyard from the mast top which shredded the main on the way down, a winch and the port board and rudder. It is my fault I had too much canvas and saw it coming too late.
