For those planning a Tas trip, Hobart, Schouten Passage, under Cape Barren light, Port Davies (Emita) , Lakes Entrance, Eden
has worked well as all reasonable length legs with reasonable shelter close by. And by going up the western side of Flinders it avoids a the 280 mile fully exposed leg going straight accross from Gabo to St Hellens

Not my neck of the woods, however I have visited quite often over the years. Huskisson has a wharf that I have used overnight a couple of times (though not for a few years), in a nor easter long beach provided reasonable shelter and I am told that target beach is good in a northerly, with hole in the wall for a southerly.

If you can tuck right in to the northern end of Long Beach it may be okay depending if there is any west in it. Just be aware of marine park no anchoring zones. Like uncle Bob said Target Beach could be okay but will be rolly if there is any leftover swell

Better still there is a brand new marina just up the coast at Shell Harbour. Or are they heading south?
Depending how large this boat is they could head up the river at Huskisson.

New setup at Shell Harbour is good, still in the building phase for services, but the marina, pub and shops are there.

Huskisson might be the best bet. Wont be able to use the wharf at the entrance but should be OK up the creek a bit to the boat ramp wharf. Plenty of shops, pub and the RSL for meals. Or stop in at Greenwell Point and use the main wharf if you don't mind being outside a trawler. Bowling club restaurant, good pub. Public travel to Nowra/Bomaderry train station. Much safer than JB with the strong NE expected.

What about Callala Bay with a well set anchor? Not sure if any public swing moorings are there. Should be reasonably protected against northerlies, but definitely not southerlies.

Curious, the wharf I tied to a few years back was, if I remember correctly the rotary wharf adjacent to the commercial wharf at the entrance to the river, the wharf at the boat ramp up the river had nothing nearby and the tidal river precluded traversing except on the tide. The services mentioned are at the entrance, not up river. Have things changed?

The new marina in Shellharbour is very good from all reports. I have not been there.

The main wharf and the adjacent wharves are very much commercial now with dive boats, charter and whale watching vessels. There is plenty of water up the creek. The entrance Is the only place of concern if you have a fair bit of draft. Low tide and a fresh NE it could be unpleasant!
The carpark and public wharf up the creek are a good 15 minute walk to the town centre. In a howling NE wind it's very pleasant there where as at the main wharf you get the full force of the wind.

The courtesy moorings are on the other side. Good for NE winds. Very unpleasant with the Westerlies forecast.

Hey, thanks for the updated info.

For further info, Shell Harbour marina entrance had about 4m on it this morning.
All weather shelter
Is $76.00 a night causal for 15m berth with use of facilities , water and power.
Helpful staff as well.

That would be fairly exciting entry with the fresh NE winds and 3m NE swell we have had lately!

Got in before the northerly kicked in, left as westerly started, abeam port Kembla now headed Newcastle.
