I met a couple of girls a while ago in Sydney who bought a Hood 23 between themselves. I don't know where they went with it though. So aside from our beloved few there are others!

Perhaps up the hawksbury river to grow hairy armpits and eat mung beans!

Hi Donk,
Yes mate, she continues to both bewitch and bedazzle me every outing.
It has proven harder than i thought to really understand how to trim, which is fascinating and frustrating at the same time.
To date the best we have achieved is 106% against polars to windward, 70% against polars downwind, that's admittedly without optimum conditions, for example we still haven't had the right conditions to three sail reach yet.
I still can't believe how simple it is to sail, you really only need one person, EXCEPT when getting her off the dock :)

Southace, I know little about these matters, so this is a wild shot in the dark, but do you think that it might just be possible that the answer to your original question can be found somewhere in the nature of this response of yours!

Dudley Moore is sitting in the bar of the hotel in Acopulco and Julie Andrews is on the phone with the barman asking to speak with Dudley who shakes his head "No".

The barman says he is "incommunicado".

She says where is "Communicado"??

He says about 50 miles from "innuendo".

I think you may find some read without commenting on a regular basis because there are so many males... There are some very active Women in Sailing groups on Facebook these days too.

Aww Southace...I'm here ... nice to know we've been missed. I've been checking in and having a read here and there...but tonight I checked in for help. How on earth do I undo the nut holding my depth sounder transducer to the hull??? Not room to get a grip with the stilsons... I'm on a slip way up the Clarence River paying by the day and now am stumped. I'm weak as a girl and even more as I can't do much with my right arm due to strained supraspinatus tendon...is there a special tool for this?

I've been so happy since I left the marina and been living on the hook. Sadly though I lost my whaite cat Lily overboard one night up the river. The other 2 ...? One went iver a week after her mother but found her way back up one of the ropes I leave hanging in the water.
I'm totally addicted to living on board..just might buy a better one soon so RANI might be for sale.

Get a hammer and a big screwdriver with a broad end, or a cold chisel style implement.
Soak around the edge of the mating surface with a spray lubricant, let soak. Then carefully set the cold chisel end into the castellated protrusion, and give it a good solid tap with the hammer.
Not over your head style mad swinging, but a good hard hit with the hammer starting a good 8 inches away on the swing.
Be careful you don't use something too sharp, you dont want to cut off the protrusions.
You want the screwdriver/cold chisel to be aligned with the protrusion, you are using the force on the circumference to do the work for you. In other words, if you have the cold chisel angled toward the centre, you will just cut into it, and the force is wasted.
Hope this helps mate.

Thanks Shaggy. Have been doing that..but no budge..and worried about cutting protrusion off as you said. I haven't tried lubricant though..will give that a go

Run a knife around the edge to score a line between the unit and the hull, ie: make sure it is not glued on through corrosion from all the usual gunk?
You do need some confidence with the swing, I have been a bit woosy before, achieved nothing, then got frustrated and given it a good belt, and voilah!

What are you going to do after you have removed the transducer? If you are going to glass-in the hole you will need all the materials at the ready, and do a perfect job. A bodgy one can sink your boat.

just my 2 cents - don't use a cold chisel or any other steel implement, chances are you'll damage something.
Use a piece of timber, say 40x19mm of suitable length and another heavier piece of timber (or mallet) to hit it with - more effective and much less chance of tears.
Alternatively, surely there's someone around who knows how to undo the transducer and is wiling to help?

My Trim has been swimming 3 times now she swims well and gets up onto the marina berth dock by her self!
shes better when we leave the dock and sleep on anchor that way I don't have to worry about her creeping round the marina hunting pigeons!

she climbed into a fishing boat one day while I was at work and when the owners got to there spot she came out from her hiding spot and jumped over the side. They had to use a crab net to retrieve her.....glad I have 4 crab nets not that we have caught a crab yet!

i would attack the sounder nut with a sharp chisel and blacksmith hammer if you are replacing it and can't get any power tools to the job.
