I have been blowing through the muffler this arvo and leaks like sieve ! It's only tag welded. I guess I could see if I could get it fully welded or find a replacement.

Soft solder could be a way out.
Doable at home and if far enough from the heat source, should take the heat.
If it works I would solder the muffler to the exhaust pipe.

Yeah I watched them mate but also got a tip that they leak . Not so bad cause I plan to fit the muffler in the aft lassarete that's separate to the main cabin but still want it right with a complete seal.

hi all hot tip , these are great but don't run them for long periods on low . you know how your diesel engine can soot up and run like crap if you run it on idle for ever? well these things are heaps more prone to it than that .
so get one that is on the small size for your space so you can run it a bit harder otherwise you end up with a sooty pile of uselessness ( don't ask how I know this??)
otherwise it was awesome for the 2 nights it worked!

yes, good advice, that is why I went with 2kW and not 5kW

as for the muffler, apparently some mufflers from small scooters can act as replacements

They're pretty simple to dismantle & clean or replace parts

Change of mounting design , she's going to sit level with the floor and exhaust ducting below with a awkward 2 meter run to the transom of the yacht. I painted the timber frame in 500 degree silicon paint and will be able to check the hot pipe with the hatch that will be re-cut to fit! I love being boats! Bring on winter!

Yep I think maybe 250 litre per hour now , still doing tests. Re-installed the heater into the lassarete compartment today. Much quieter now and no hot pipe in the living quarters.

Her final resting place after 3 moves! Grrrrr. Longer wire , fuel and duct but now the shortest exhaust and super quiet down below, the aft double cabin is well heated and the main cabin and forward cabin is at 21 degrees and it's currently 12 degrees on deck.

I'm opting out on the drain for now. The exuast is that hot it will burn any moisture and have ordered a 30 degree transom exhaust outlet I will bend the exhaust to deck level and then back down to the outlet. Friends have run there's for 3 years they have a fuel tap in the line to drain the pipe but never seen a drop when checked.

10 degrees on deck and 22 degree below. Best boat bit I ever brough!

Would be enoying especially if she's American been there done that! rather my diesel heater . Dropped her down to 2kw from 3kw now after 4 hours run. Below is 23 degrees on decks is feels like 6!

I made my own - it would be easier than a tap I reckon & works automatically!!

Sometimes, if for some reason the burner doesn't ignite, it will pump raw diesel into the exhaust & it will lay in the low point. This is not good - don't ask me how I know!!
Also, if you get any water down the exhaust the burner will not ignite due to excess back pressure.

1 hour increments not sure the usage yet but looks like bugger all. Not quite ready to leave her running all night but will eventually.

I have now been running the unit over night. 17 hour runs. Using around 10 litres of diesel per 40 hrs.
today I fitted the stainless angled transom outlet the hotpipe doesn't really get that hot but nice to have a good sealed through hull. Could save $140 and just silicon with high temp silicon oversized hole with hot pipe.
using around 1.6 amp per hour at the 2.4 kw setting.
Be intresting running it while sailing.
its keeping a 22 degrees below decks with a 10 degree deck temp.
Best thing I brought for s boat maybe.

I'm in the process of changing over the first section of ducting, about 3.5 mts, from 75mm to 100mm - it will stay at 75 after the first T.

You've inspired me Southace (along with the 3c temp on the boat on Sunday night), I've ordered one! Did you buy extra ducting, if so from where? I'm yet to properly map out my install, but I'll likely need three outlets and upwards of 7 meters of ducting. There are plenty of options out of China, but they all have delivery times in the multiple weeks.

Where are you sourcing your ducting Lazzz? I see buntings has the 100mm semi flexible aluminum stuff. Maybe that's the way I should go as it's relatively cheap, easily available and will aid airflow down the length of the boat.

Ebay, ducting it was from a caravan shop I think, I ordered 3 meters. I only have one duct coming from the lazzerete under the quarter cabin bunk and jetting directly out of that cabin into the main saloon.
I would suggest buy the unit first . Set it up and dummy run it with 3 meters of duct first. I just layed the duct across the bunk for the first couple of nights before I planed to start cutting 82 mm holes in bulkheads.

fuel tank in engine room with fuel pump. (Fuel pump is most noise you will hear). I have brought a fuel transfer pump to Decan direct from my main fuel tank line into the heater Day tank.

S/S exuast hose and transom skin fitting ordered from Tasmania supplier.

I have run mine for 100 hrs since install. Using 10 litres per 45 hour runs. Last night was min. 2.5 C on deck cabin remained at 20C through out the night.

Best item I ever brought for a boat. !

Yeah I hear what you're saying about cutting holes in bulkheads, I want to be absolutely certain too. So good advice there! I'll look at finding the right mounting location for the heater first, get it mounted and working and plan the rest from there. I'm leaning towards using the bunnings 100mm ducting from the unit through to the salon. Then I'll reduce to 75mm through to the vee berth.
yes I'll order the skin fitting from dieselheat in Tas too.
My fuel tank is under the galley sink and has a spare pick up on it. So I'll probably mount the fuel pump in there somewhere and suspend + sound insulate it.
what did you end up doing with the muffler?
