Looking for a wave kite. Im not interested in flat water or boosting and have been asking around the shops but they all plug there brands which is fair enough and they make them all seem good. Just wondering if anyone has an unbiased opinion that's ridden a few different kites

Is there such a thing as unbiased. Read the reviews - lots of them, compare notes find similarities. Then PM the actual riders and get more detail. Compare these repsonses as well. An open question like this will only generate Bias.

There all good and you'll need a few to have the most fun.
Unless you've got multiple seasons under your belt I dont think you'd tell.
Remember the three rules of surf kiting.
1. Dont drop your kite.

Currently riding an old rev 2 which goes great and am riding strapless sometimes.
Ready to upgrade was liking the looks of the reos

okay so read very review you cna find on the Reo, not just on this forum. Piece together similarities between the reviews. The PM known Rio riders and ask them moe specifics. If it looks worth it, then demo.

Before my Reo's I used to be on Revs.
I loved my Revs and after demoing heaps of kites over the few years I had them, nothing really compared in my closed eyed opinion!
I prefer my Reo's in everyway over my Revs though, much better bridle system, inflation system, and bar.

Hey SC, I saw a noise 8 out the other day and the guy said it did it all - boost, drift, upwind - and his kite was flying 3-5kts before mine (08 rev 11) after lulls.
Needless to say I was kind of ******off watching this with my kite barely flapping in the light breeze, but there you go.
I've seen heaps of semi negative reviews (there's a bit of flak on 'em out there for sure) for these kites so it was kind of confusing to talk to and see somebody genuinely liking one of these.
More information for ya anyhow.

True just got an email from bws with there new kite in it.
It looks really nice. Was really leaning towards the reo but now have to try both.
I don't understand those comments on bws either I think what he does is awesome and often watch his kites come past on down winders and can't fault them. But I'm still going to try them both.

whatever this guys using seems to work

I ride the Gastra Hatch. stable kite that likes to drift.

Nothing complex about making this kite perform,
that's why I rate it highly.

if you trial the reo from kitethrills maybe take the catalyst out and compare, mike will steer you in the right direction.

drift drift drift, that's all some guy's go on about,
i however value unhooked performance over many other characteristics
RPM gets the heads up from me, been riding for 2years solid and it does the job a peach, helps that i do a little bitty of freestyle too.

difficult to provide "unbiased" opinion. In my experience (12 years kiting, 30 plus sailing / flying) I have come to the conclusion that what you ride is unlikely to dictate how proficient you are, and its only a very small number of riders who know what design subtly will improve their proficiency.

i.e - Ben Wilson could ride an esky lid with a smelly ol' 8mtr hanky and would still look safe, smooth and effortless, whereas a million other plonkers would blame their gear.

... but if you are looking for choices of good gear, go stand on the beaches, look for someone who kites the way you want to, check out what they have, ask them why they use it - then go find a surf shop and ask to demo.

interestingly, many good riders I have spoken to over the years, price is rarely in the top three most important requirements, and the list of brands is fairly short

If you only want to ride waves and live on the sunshine coast I would recommend a 10m Reo.
Just demo & make up your own mind.

Ha, your not wrong there mate.
And must add that Reo,s are only any good with a surfboard, forget the TT.

Try the RRD Religon , tried all of the rest , this kite does all the others do and without doubt the quickest kite of all , hangs well in the downwinds and turns and loops on a dime.

Have riden my 7 from 15 knts to 35 plus, riden my ten from 12 knts to 25 knts, on jimmy lewis rad -f.


Build quality on kite and bars are second to none.
Moving back to Margate this april and will be staying with RRD ,have kited for 8 years and have had Slingys, cabs, New, and tried all of the others.

Dont know if you can demo them in Qld , but give me a call late april and your welcome to have a go at mine (7 or 10 )

What's the DNA of the rrd ? C, delta, bow? Might have to add to my demo list. Lol
