I have just got the 08 bar, so i havent rigged it up as yet, however on my 07 bar flew without adjustment.

I am anal about line lengths etc and am guided by Dazza however he reckons straight out of the bag is no worries.

You must be well connected! I was just told today that my 08 bar is now not going to arrive until next month. Was supposed to have it by now. Mmmm... anyways, all is not lost as the 07 bar works just fine. But... was looking forward to using the stopper again. I don't want to use the one on the 07 as I know the stopper line will break after a week or two because it has happened before.

go to kiteforum there is someone with an 08 rebel that is having problems with their valves too... might have some help from that thread on what to do.

Could this be a shonky production problem with some of the rebel kites?

Did they "fly out of the bag" or did you need to play around with the line lengths?

(I am getting the 12 and 9)

Plug and play, on the 10m I did shorten the steering lines by one knot to grunt up, but the 12m is perfect as is and probably so is the 10m I just like the 10m amping.

Remember to check the line lengths on the bar are all even with depower strap out and bar pulled to microhook in, then set to go.

Tried the enw bar last week when they came through.

not lot of diff between this year and last year, except the floaties are thinner and longer plus there is some plastic covering the leader lines above the floaties.
The new stopper is great works a dream so the need to bring the cleat closer to the bar is negated.

i do think though those back lines could be shortend an inch or so.

Cool, I have been riding mine constantly one knot shorter on the steering line now and really don't need to move it. My mates new 12m 08 is quite prefect out the bag.

Had a super strong day at Goolwa again and was really nice trimmed up like that.

Can anyone tell me how the Rebel 08 compares in bottom end power to the xbow2 - I really want to get off my xbows for somthing that turns better (more consistent power through turn ) but the other kites I try all have felt gutless in comparison.

I did demo a 9m 07 rebel and loved the way it turned but was hard to tell bottom end as the wind was about 23-25knts - although it required very little effort to turn I did notice significant bar pressure when just riding along (may be tuning issue) - but thats 07.

I would love to know as well. I have had my new 08 Rebel since 28 August and still waiting for 08 bar to arrive. Initially expected mid September (for at least part of it), then pushed back to early October. What's the date now? Mmmm...

Sounds like some people in WA have had them for weeks.

Another question guys, does anyone have the Rebel 08 with the white canopy and green leading edge and struts? I tried to order that one but was told they only had the white canopy with blue leading edge and struts like last years colours. Anyone know why the green is advertised but not available? Its just something to do with what was released from the factory from what i understand.

You can't really rely on the colors combinations shown on the North website. My new Rebel is pink and blue. Try finding that one .

It obviously comes down to a timing issue, and based on colors available on the shop floor when they dispatch. Easier, and I assume cheaper, in the factory if they don't have to be entirely dependent on the amount of colored cloth estimated and pre-ordered.

I think North should come clean and have a little one-liner at the bottom of their color chart that states "colors based on availability and may not be exactly as shown..."

Kite colors in stock probably come down to two things. What colors are on the shop floor especially seeing as Aus seams gets the new North kites before any other country. And the second thing is what gets put in the container to the importer and what he sends to the dealer and how long they stick around.

I heard a rumor that there where some one off color combinations that came to Aus. A besides it's just a color, but I didn't say that!

Regarding the colour combination topic, here's how it goes: North has some colour patterns decided in advance for its kites, but it may happen that the factory runs out of a certain canopy colour. In order not to delay the production, manufacturers are allowed to use another colour if running out of the "official" one. I believe everyone would be pissed off if hearing "sorry, the kites won't be here before December because they ran out of blue".
Hence some canopy colours that weren't in the brochure.
I know Naish doesn't announce any particular colours (it solves the problem!). I don't know how other brands handle it, I suppose it also depends on their release dates...
Now that I think about it, Rooboy, I could have end up with the funky white and green canopy with a splash of yellow you were after... It was oh so perfectly matching my new Rocketfish! (I can't believe I just wrote that... please, don't repeat that around...)
At the end o the day, we can only do with what we're being given to start with, and for me, opening shipment boxes is a bit Forrest Gump chocolate box theory: you never know what you gonna get...
We try as much as possible to fulfill particular colour request, but I remember once having dockets piled up by colour preference, me all pumped up and willing to please the world with the requested kite colours, and when I opened the boxes, all I could see was black and pink (...) -Sometimes, being willing just isn't enough...-

Hey folks. Please excuse my ignorance on this; Poor Reli and Dazza both made coment on makeing the back line length shorter. Do you still go through the same process of powering the kite up pulling the bar up against the micro hook ensuring that line lenghts are equal and then bring the line lenght in one knot or just adjust it straight out of the bag. I had a Rebel last year but I don't think I had it tuned right. Oh and is there any need to adjust the throw or will the the new stopper do the job.

I have one on the way, I too am waiting on the new bar.

Hey Em can you do me a favour and maybe sacrifice a couple of goats to the wind gods so that when the kite gets here I can be guaranteed to get some wind.

Anyone tried that Mallory board thinking of selling my 07 thorn and getting one.

Don't need to sacrifice anything mate, just go where I go kiting, no matter where that is, it's always on!

I tried the 9m today. The kite was perfect. However I was using my 07 bar and the kite would not sit on its 5th line. It would fly up in the air on its back as if the 5th line was to short. My bar works fine on my 06 & 07 Vegas. Is there a difference in the 08 rebel bar? I assume the stopper ball is set further away from the bar? Not sure
Very nice kite

For what it is worth to anyone, I just picked up the 14m 08 Rebel kite. I am a 83 Kg intermediate rider, 132 board can get out with no white caps appearing (10 to 12 Knts average approx).

The 14m rebel seems to suit the light sydney wind my weight and riding ability. My opinion (based so far on only having the kite out twice and in nothing over 15Knts) is that norths have developed this kite taking all the good things from the 07 Rebels and 07 Rhino and having owned both of these kites in the 12 m range I am beginning to feel satisfied that they have developed a good 08 Rebel kite.

Looking forward to getting this 14m kite into the 20Knt range. I can see that I may need to go to the last knot in stronger winds? maybe because we brought the cam cleat closer to the body? Is everyone riding on the middle knot?

Picked up the 14m 08 Rebel. Had it out twice under 15 Knts. 83 Kg intermediate rider on a 132mm board.

So far the kite is good. Power feel like the rhino, forgiving like last years rebel. Cant wait to get it out in over 20Knts.

Everyone riding on the middle knot? even when it is over 20Knts?

Rebels 08 Rock. PS Rhino 07 and rebel 07 are great kites to. Look under adds to see a really good Rhino 07 12m for sale. (to many kites) This sport is so addictive.

I just bought the Rebel 08 14 m and am selling (on seabreeze) a hardly used 12m 07 Rhino. If anyone wants this kite it is in great condition. Purchased in may 07 used literally 10 times and would be suprised if it touched the water.

The new rebel 08 14m for a 83 KG intermediate rider is a great kite so far. I have had it out only twice under 15Knts and find it rocks. Keep up the good work Norths.

Are people riding on the middle knot in over 20 Knots of breeze?

Hi Camck, the new Rebel 08 with the new 2007.5 (old iron heart which is perfect anyway) is plug and play. It runs perfect now, when I used my 2007 bar it still worked better with steering lines shorter one knot (for me liking extra powered feeling) however with the next bar I touched nothing and the feel was the same. Also one of my mates was using his 2007 bar on his new 12m Rebel and once he used the new bar it was perfect.

Luke Ratcliff, nice to hear about the 14m, I have flown it and it is a really nice light fast and powerful kite, have fun. just plug it as is and you will take 20 knots with little trouble using the depower.

sell your house, girl, mother - whatever it takes and buy these kites. Got a 14 +10 and they are the shiznit.

I thought the 14 was the best thing i've ever ridden until i got on the 10. all i can say is believe the hype and don't buy anything else until you've had a go on one.

are there any more inversion problems than other kites?
I saw someone on saturday in the surf and was impressed with the turning speed, but then what looked like a simple relaunch the kite inverted. I was impressed that it could fly it back to the beach upside down!
This was a 9m in gusty conditions 14- 20knots and 2m swell

have the 07's
never had inversion problem
been in some crazy stuff over the winter too on a 7m
pump the leading edge hard
i've found they dont like a super tight fifth line so added a pig tail and that allows a bit of slack
this works well for the surf as they then drift back on the wind if you undershoot the kite

i've got no bad things to say about these babies apart from nose lines the wrong length when delivered (on the 7M), was aware this might be the case and rectified it

14m 08 rebel 85 KG rider and having some fun on a 6ft surfboard (thruster called ruckus). Allows me to stay just upwind in 10-12knts if you get the occasional 15knt gust. The only fear I have is wearing out the kite to soon. I wish I had bought this kite sooner.
