I can handle the 8m in 28 knots okay, been kiting for a long time, can control speed well enough.

Suppose I was just talking about an overlap of some sort. You know those days that may be 28 odd but gusts can hit 35.

Then again one wonders how much I would actually use the 7m edge then. 90% of the time would be spent on the 11 and 8 rebels.

Or do I just get say a 9m edge purely as an alternative jumping machine, keep the rebels for the waves.

We do a lot of flat water estuary riding when prevailing easterlies, be great for an edge. Must admit unless I go north early on, I rarely kite above 30 knots down in mandurah anyhow, just doesn't get that high unless in winter, but that;s a whole other kettle of fish.

Food for thought... see what darren saya I suppose.
hold out before you bye an edge and try this years north fuse will give you a better boost than an edge ,and its feels a lot like a rebel this year .went out in the same conditions as rusty did 10mtr 2012 fuse and if they came in a 8 and 11 thats would be my pick and you can save on the no bar price aswell

The fuse boosts bigger than the edge hey? Not what I've heard or read but I'm all ears. have you ridden them both. very very different concepts man, ones a rebel type kite and the other is a well, it's a wing...can't see how you'd be right, but you might be??

and..... are you a non smoker?

I'm about the same weight as you Eppo, I am only an intermediate kiter, like I said before, I'm maxed out on my 11 Edge at 25knots an unhook it and clip it in to the advanced boys who a frothing to take it out.

If you want an 2011 Edge (2012 is a colour change) and be out in a constant 35 knots, not forgetting there could be up to 40 knot gusts in those conditions, I would not want to be on a nine, it would be seven for me.

As Darren said, the only way to slow the speed down on these kites it to edge your board as hard as you can and push up wind to point the kite in to the breeze and only then will the speed wash off. Come off the edge even slightly and sit the kite just a little bit back in the window and the power will light you up.

No way would I want to be out in 40 knot gusts with a 9m Edge, but, some people would, its your call

Got to give my 13m a go in around 20 knots. It's much slower that the 9m. In fact speed wise it felt like my 2010 12m cab convert. I was expecting it to be quicker. But most of that is probably due to the inexperienced pilot and i wasn't too aggressive with the kite.

Did some jumps and loved it. Great float and super soft landings. This kite really gives you confidence to go bigger and bigger. When you boost it's like - whoa, this is what kiting is about. Can't wait to try it in a couple more knots. It's going to be unreal.

And it flies upwind. It's effortless. Hardly had to egde at all.

Yeh maybe for your 100kg, short, star sign aries who likes long walks on the beach...

had a good chat to darren at AKS, and he said 9m as well, just wondering when my 85kg would be maxed out, then again these kites I think are meant to be flown at their limit to realise there true potential. Yeh 9m we thinks...

What is this rhino dude talking about man??? Rhino what the hell are talking about? ha HA

Eppo Not sure about long walks on the beach ... Maybe a quick stroll to the pub!
jas .... I'm thinking ... speed runs and roundabouts ....am I close.???
The good news Eppo is that when you think you are overpowered you can still control these kites enough to get back in safely.
