Hi,

i want to change my old quiver. Can you compare the 2015 or 2014 reo 8 and 10meters with the first rally ( 2011 and 2012) In term of up wind ability and low end.

I had the chance to ride the Rally 2012 from a shop when it went out during a couple of sessions. I remember a fast kite, precise in handling and powerful. Good for riding waves but not only. I did not like the bar pressure. Steering was easy but pressure was high on the bar when gust hitted.
The Reo 2014 (I own 7 and 9m) are powerful too but much softer in the bar and very precise in the bar. Therefore the wind range is really great. With my 85kg, I'm able to get upwind and surf waves in less than 15knots on the 9m (13-14knots maybe but I don't carry a wind meter...) and can ride comfortable in 25knots (I can shoot the kite in the wind window without being lift off my surfboard). Basically, I used to ride Wainman (which felt similar to Rally), the Reo feels much lighter in the air, flies easily in lulls and is very confortable when riding on my back hand (I can steer it with one hand). I haven't really used the 7m Reo (twice in poor conditions) but the 9m Reo 2014 is a real nice piece.
I'm in Paris, riding year round in the North and Normandy mainly and from time to time heading back home in Brittany, so if you're around, I can let you demo them. Note that I'm not affiliated with Ozone, and unfortunately I pay the hard price for my gear...

Is the 9m good on the 45 cm bar?
I get 9 & 7 m and I get 1 bar.

7 & 10 covers all I want to ride in nicely @70kg

The 7M is fine on the 50cm bar. Thats how I use my quiver of 12/9/7 all on one 50cm bar. The 9 could work on a 45, but there will be times when you'll wish it was 50cm, but I've not found the opposite and I've flown my 7M a lot this season so far.

Always used my 6 with the 50cm bar.
Also, the 12m has been the best decision I have made in ages.
Such a wicked kite, sooo nice being able to park it in light winds compared to flying it like crazy!
I find myself trying to fly it when I should be on a much smaller kite (put up the 12 before down sizing to the 8, 5 mins later! haha).

Hey surfingboye. Thinking of getting the 2015 12m. I have the 2013 6-8-10. Also have a 2014 10m which is currently my "light wind" kite but thinking of the new 12 instead to get some more low end. What's the lightest wind you can stay upwind with your 12? And is the feel of the 2015 closer to the '13 or '14? Thanks for any info mate.

Hey mate, I would be able to hold ground around the 13-14 knot mark I'd say.
Usually when its light, others will be on 10's flying the kite super hard and losing ground; the 12 is just park it and ride.
I didn't have any 2014 Reo's, so can't comment on that point.

A 7M 2015 will be similar in power to an 8M 2012, so that should fit your quiver well, BUT what are you looking for? Is your 2012 6m in good nick and you are keeping it and it works in strong winds for you?
If thats the case, then the other option would be to get a 6M 2015, (equivalent to a 2012 7M). I've got 7/9/12 (and a 10 Cat) this covers me from 13/14 through to 30-35 using 2 boards 5'4" and 5'8" and I'm 77kg.
In the stronger WA breezes I'd probably get a 6 hope that helps.

With the 7m 2015, at 35 knots, are you overpowered or still confortable?

just got a couple new Reo bars in the mail last week. New soft ends with moulded in floats and new grip etc- looks killer and should keep my boards dent free with this new upgrade! been loving the kites just wasn't keen on the hard bar ends but now this bar has made it a perfect set up for the surf- if in perth KSS in scarbs should have them now too, check them out!

Are the soft bars available, as 'bar only' without lines to retro fit existing 2015 bar line sets? Price?

At the start of the season I bought, 9 and 12 reos. @80kg on a SB. Ive already got a 2014 7m

After 6 months I struggle to enjoy the 12. Its just too big and slow. But I do love the 9m and ride it 80% of the time as light as 18kn.

What is interesting is there's bugger all difference between the 9 and 12. Ive flown them back to back in about 17-18kn a few times and was surprised how much power could be generated out of the 9m because you can fly it so quick in the air. So i borrowed a 10m a few times and found it also generated heaps of power and I was getting out of the water the same time the guys on 11-12m kites found they were underpowered.

In hindsight I should have got a 8m and 10m instead of the 9m and 12m. Anyone who wants to swap a 10m (2015) for a 12m (2015) let me know...
