These big kites don't relaunch in 7 knots!


The 17m kites won't get much of a run over a decent WA summer, whereas a Nugget will get you on the water first in clean (ish) surf before everyone else and then you can switch up without changing kites once the wind kicks in properly.

There is more ways to skin a cat than you think!

A few ways to look at this one though Darren.
-Our experience here is a 14m Rebel will make the power of some 17m kites.
- Maybe not in WA but big kites get plenty of use on the East coast
- There are some big kites that will relaunch in <7knt, think 5 line or foil kites

However yes I do usually agree with the light wind board options over big kites. Don't forget the skim boards though!!

Hey Mitch, I picked up an 08 Rebel 14m that was pretty much brand new and I Freaking Love it. Took me a bit to dial it in 'just so' but one its in you will go mental. I have been out in as low as 9knots riding on a 129 twinny (wasn't intentional!) and still managed to stay level on the beach. The reason I love it so much is because it's so useable in a wide wind range as we tend to get big variations here. It may start off blowing 15knots but you'll be having so much fun you don't notice the ass has fallen out the wind and your left with 9 to get home on. As for the slow turning, I have the lines on the rear setting on the kite and alternate between the short and long at the bar. When you've got them shortened up it spins on a dime. If it's turning too slow you must be freaking awesome I love the 14 rebel so much I'm off to replace my trusty old airush 10m with a spanking new rebel 10m tomorrow!!!
That will round out my quiver with a 7m (airush) a 10m (rebel) and a 14m (rebel)
For what it's worth I'm 173cm and weigh 75kg's and havn't had to push the 14 past 25knots.

... ha ha, when I was learning I got dragged over a reef and torn the crutch of my stinger suit. Eventually I swam back into the beach I did the walk of shame back up the beach wondering why people were laughing at me. My junk was hanging out and I didn't know. Oh well!
