I've had a few short holidays in rural fishing towns along the WA coast this year and a lot of locals seem to have a toyota landcruiser of some description (arguments which model another topic).

here is a list of what the common specs are:
diesel, preferably v8 with turbo
2 fuel tanks for extended range
lift kit
muddies or at least all terrain tyres
bar work
LED lights

disclaimer: i can't afford one

Factory turbo 4.2 six over the v8 any day
Muddies are good of you like road noise and stalling in sand
ATs make more sense

I stall on the sand all the time

The extra money you save on fuel for the 3ltr you will more than likely spend on an engine rebuild.

I did all the research and still chose the 2005 3ltr, which is past the worst of the engines. But I got one with the full NADS treatment (Nissan Anti Detonation System?) plus some other reliability add-ons which is stuff like:
EGR block
dawes valve
needle valve
pyro/turbo/oil pressure guages
catch can
3" exhaust
Uprated welded intercooler

And a few other bits and pieces.

It's not an ironclad guarantee of no boom, but it's enough for me not to stress.

I would say I get about 450-500kms from the normal tank which is about $70-90 to fill depending on diesel price.

wowa that's some terrible economy.

I'm rocking 8 to 9l /100

800km per tank. $70

Up until recently had a Peugeot 308 (RIP or rebirthed) and routinely got 5.5l/100km on the highway, so a trip to Rosie ~135km would cost a mere $8 so made the trip all the more worthwhile

suby on the other hand 8-9 if I am lucky

Because after learning to clap two sticks together we also realised that light made life easier! Your obviously at the two stick stage.

I'm just at the stage of using the stock lighting rather than wasting time upgrading to LED lights
more time for kiting
