Worked 6 sometimes 7 days a week, 10 to 13 hours a day in the heavy construction industry for the last 22 years. Despite long hours it always felt like a holiday until the kids came along. Pulled the pin about 8 weeks ago and have done sweet FA since. Built a cubby for the kids, done some work on me boat and kite, kite ,kite. Looking for a career change but not looking real hard at the moment.

Self employed screen printer working from home. Use inks that don't air dry, so can down tools anytime and take the 6 min drive to my local spot. Regular customers know not to call over if it's windy. Wife also kites and works part time as Uni lecturer and mainly from home also. Kids are now old enough to be home alone. I have plenty of work and can start nice and early if needed to make sure I'm free if the forecast is good. No shop front any more or overheads and time commitments associated with it. Life doesn't get much better

All I can say is thanks to the landlubbers who keep the economy going - us ocean addicts have clearly got a problem! Never have so few owed so much to so many. I propose hug a geek day (but not when the winds/surfs up).

Big 4 Audit....currently in the middle of my CA

Yes, I got the short end of the stick.

Weekend kites for you then!

I used to be able to fit in early morning surfs, but kites after work forget it.

after 22 years of that, you should have enough to retire. I'd hate to have sweet FA after that kinda long haul.!

Outback/Adventure Tour Guide.

i travel 20 days a month swimming with dolphins, sealions, tuna, sharks, surfing, mountain climbing, bush walking and camping in remote areas of australia. sites and locations are Adelaide to Perth and back again.

get 8 days home.. usually im chasing a surf.. but most times its flat and or windy.. so have taken up kiting. hopefully best of both worlds!

I think location, location, location is key to successful kite addiction. I have a standard job but live and work minutes away from one of the best wind and wave machines in the world. I get many a quick session that I would not otherwise get if I lived in the middle of a big city or a big drive away from the beach.

So I think that is key first. Find the wind machine, then locate as close to that as possible. Then source some kind of work that enables you to feed your addiction.

Base in geraldton, travel all around WA for work, iv kited from broome down to albany and everywhere in between the last 3 years. Split shift so I can kite the gero wind before its get too chopped up. I well and truly should of gone up in the corporation and had plenty of opportunity to move down to perth by now but being 23 I still want the lifestyle and this particular role because of the freedom to kite and get clients being a PT at a gym on the side.

I go to perth every fortnight to see the missus an the kite scene down there compared to here...well its just another reason im delaying the move.
