Hi guys, been awhile since I've posted, but I thought I'd let you know my thoughts and give a bit more info on a few points.
Yes it is new and yes and yes you have you have purchase a new spreader bar for this to work, but for anyone hating on the way it works, I urge to at least try it before you make that decision. I'll admit I wasn't 100% sold on it the first time I tested it out last year, but the more I've ridden it, the more I like it and the simple thing is it just feels better and works better for 90% of riding. Having the connection point that much closer to your body with the ability for the ball to swivel up rather then lever the spreader bar into your ribs makes things much more comfortable.
When it comes to unhooking, I thought I'd clear this up. For someone like me who rides mostly hooked in but still wants the option to unhook on occasions, this works perfectly. No it is not as easy as hooking back in with a loop but too be completely honest it's really not that difficult either. It is a smaller target, but if you grab the swivel handle area to help guide it back like a lot of people still do with a loop anyway, its pretty easy. For the 80% of people that ride purely hooked in, this obviously doesn't matter. For the 10% of people who rarely unhook but still want the option, this is still a great system for you. Simply unlock the gate when you want to be able to unhook and put it back into place when you want to be locked in completely. As long as the lines don't go completely slack the ball can hold in on the spreader bar pretty well without the gate engaged too. For the hardcore freestyle guys who are unhooking a lot, obviously the loop is still better which is why cabrinha still sell as an option on all their bars if wanted.
When it comes to changing from quickloop to a fireball system, they've made this as easy as possible. Between 2017 bars its basically a 2 minute job that involves opening up the swivel handle and attaching the new fireball system to that. They did have to change the swivel handle a little to make a few things easier this year which means for 2015/16 bars you'll need to change the depower line as well but this isn't that much more expensive and still a relatively easy option. If you are interested in doing that then just go in and visit your local dealer and I'm sure they can help you out and change it over. Another thing to note is cabrinha bars will work on and most 4 line single line flag kites on the market so it is possible to retrofit to other kites if you are interested.
Another thing to note is that you will be able to buy a cheap simple chicken loop that connects straight to the original release as an aftermarket part. If you want something that allows you have the option to let others try your kite or share the kite with someone that would rather use a chicken loop system, then this works great
For wave riding I really like this system for the obvious reason that it allows the pull to rotate much easier side to side and in every direction. For people asking about a sliding system there is a pretty cool mod that a few dealers know about that should allow you to get the best of both worlds by being able to unhook from the spreader onto a sliding system then hook back onto spreader for that central pull when you need it. This is something I am very keen on trying more myself and I can update once I have tested it out a little more.
Personally I will riding this system 100% this year I urge all of you to atleast go out and at least demo one to try for yourself.
Cheers,
Keahi
