Yes canopy material will be the same. D2 used on OR kites is around 50 gsm I think so no weight saving there.

The greatly reduced weight and rigidity of the frame is the ham - it is less than half the weight of standard construction and tested to be up to 10 times stronger, it's UV stable, it does not absorb water, is highly tear resistant, and when under load it becomes dramatically stiffer and rigid vs Dacron and PU bladders.
So your kite now weighs half as much and will have a strong frame so response to turning and handling and durability is greatly improved.

As soon as I get a demo I will post some initial thoughts. Proof is in the pudding!

When testing new fibers they have a little machine that literally pinches the thread and flicks it back and fourth to a 90 degree angle until it snaps dont suppose you can run a request up the chain for info on that can you eastcc? Just tell them you have some rich Saudi on the line. Works for me when i start dialling up suppliers if you want to make it authentic hit up your local 711or gas station with a list to read out and make them do the call from a thai Registered mobile

While you're asking, they need to tell us a lot more about the "... twice as stiff ..." thing. He says it has nothing to do with running at higher pressure and comes from the bladder material interacting with the strut material to be twice as stiff. How?

Every other inflatable kite in in the world gets its stiffness from the pressure of the bladder inside the strut material. How does some floppy Aluula bladder material inside some floppy Aluula strut material end up being stiffer with no more air inside it?

I'm not hanging **** on the idea. It's just that extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Please explain.

Also, a few video demonstrations would be nice. Bend a normal strut. Fail to bend an Aluula strut. That sort of thing.

Skydivers and paragliders always seem like dicks when it comes to new kite products but you really do need to see the sort of thorough testing that we consider minimal. You cant even release a new fabric until its proven to meet vigorous testing and all those results are publicly shown in their promotional material.

Im just bloody glad im not the only one even if you are a bit of an oldie gorgo :P

I read in anther forum that it'll retail at a similar price to foil kites.

when I get a kite in my hands I can get some video for you, but for sure it will all be covered by the official launch.

Like I said proof is in the pudding, but Ocean Rodeo have always been pretty transparent, and have been pushing reduced weight while maintaining rigidity for years, so I'm happy to see new materials because it's at the limit of what you can do with Dacron.

Normally the team riders flog the daylights out of the gear in a few months thats generally considered the equivelant of a few years from a weekend warrior

For the last few years I have been thinking the next big development in kites will be in the construction rather than the design. Lighter, stronger, stiffer, more durable all these are aspects that could be hugely improved upon from what we have today.

Having gotten into foiling and using 1 strut kites foiling and in the surf I have found reduced weight makes a huge difference in a kites drift, stability and agility. I am not just talking light wind either, a super light kite in 20+ knots is a whole new experience in drift

If you could combine the light weight with the more rigid responsiveness of a multistrut kite then you would have some real magic. A rigid stiff 3 strut wave kite that is as light as a no strut cloud now I am really frothing!!!

I will, like most consumers, remain highly sceptical until all the proof has been laid out but I am very excited to see how this plays out!

This has really been one of Ocean Rodeo focus over the past few seasons, reducing weight without compromising durability and performance.
The current Flite is one of the lightest 3 strut kites on the market, but when the bladder ends up being around 1/3 of the kites weight you have to look at other options, like the material.

Not sure if a more ridgid kite would make it feel nice to use,kinda like using lines which have too much or too little stretch...

Might make a kite fly nicer in high winds and load up better

if the kite did land in the water or drift launching, would capillary action draw water into the leading edge that would be Painful and consuming to remove?

The more rigid the better and immediate feedback at the bar. Nothing worse than a flippy floppy kite shearing and crap like that in the air... feels like you are attached to a big lackey band. Yet some companies have actually advertised this as a positive in the past ... bollocks.

Me too, we see very little of the product here but i really liked a blast i had on a visitor to my local, theyve never really made a hold in wa same as other brands like rrd etc, but we never hear bad things about them in quality or flght wise , tbh some of my better sessions have been on brands at the lower end of marketing, id say the material will be available to all brands unless an inhouse deal has been made, itd make no sence supplying to one manufacturer unless one of the big boys out there

Hopefully get some gear for all to play with at your Windfest this year Cauncy, I'm working on it.

Would be great to have some representation at the event, see what you can do or if you need any assistance drop me a mail
