Back to my simple day out fishing. When I hook the boat up and head for the ramp I have to deal with the road police. When I get to the ramp then I have to deal with the parking inspector to make sure I have a ramp ticket. I fire the boat up out I go and then there they are the water police. After I have provided all the safety gear I get on with fishing. Back to the ramp and there they are fisheries.
Is everyone getting the point. If you believe that they can't police this, and I won't get caught, then try explaining that to the judge that your above the law and that life jackets are a crock. Because the water police don't care, there out there filling there daily quotas.
If I lived in NSW I think I would be buying a pocket epirb and a safety flare and another gas cylinder for my life jacket and a. whistle for my life jacket and reflective strips for my kite. Why. Because thats what comes after a life jacket.

Its so nice besides the people..thE freedom of being able to get out there and not be hassled by people ..mostly

if I had a time machine i would pull up Kiteboarding Australias comments (BEFORE THEY HAD ME CENSORED and banned) saying they recieve no government FUNDS and show them this which they just sent me!

claim they dont recieve ANY FUNDING from taxpayers pisses me off so much if there was NO FUNDS they wouldnt exist and we wouldnt have to be bloody well wearing life jackets for ONE thing and having to fight in the future over governing bodys being forced to be members to enter a competition seriously being forced into insurance and having to register to simply enjoy our sport.

* A revision of Lifejacket regs was circulated by the NSW Government. It has been around for some time.
* KBNSW made a very similar submission to the one made the last time this nonsense was proposed.
* It appears the submission was completely ignored - just like submissions from other water user groups - no we are not the only one affected!
* The Government amended the regs despite the submissions - they do this quite frequently! Consultation is a bit of a joke these days.
* If you need another example, look at the new laws for bike riders and the ridiculous fines the NSW Government implemented there.
* Vent your anger on the right people - sign the online petition and write to your local member (NSW), the responsible Minister - Duncan Gay, and the Premier - Mike Baird and explain why some of these changes are downright dangerous and unnecessary and need to be revisited urgently.
* Despite the misguided drivel above, KAL do not receive government funding to run the organisation. Funding comes from member subscriptions and much of that goes out again to fund the insurance policy that members receive the benefit of. They have just received a single government grant in Victoria to develop a specific safety training program.
* As Alex said earlier work is being done to try and reverse this decision in NSW and hopefully to dissuade other states and territories from following suit - yes they are a little like lemmings sometimes!

Nice idea but the NSWKSA was partially formed because beach access was already threatened as far back as 2002, (or earlier, I didn't get into the sport until 2002)
If I remember correctly, Botany Bay in particular was at threat because of the proximity to the airport.

I was briefly a member of the committee in 2004, and one of my jobs at the time was to turn up to meeting called by Waterways to discuss the Whale Tour Operators feeling threatened by the proximity of kiters when trying to navigate the entrance to Georges River in Botany Bay. Without a representative there, Dolls Point may have been closed and, yes, Waterways would have enforced it.

Anyway, lets hope for a rational resolution.

Lost my licence while listening to RATM when i was 18... speeeeding Stupid but sure is good go fast music!

Oh and good luck with the inflatables NSW, oping Victorians aren't so stupid. How many people could possibly be caught if they did try to police it? All seems a bit why bother? No prior drawings etc and could possibly be its own safety hazard, not required in waves etc etc, all seems vague, how big does a wave need to be?

That's kind of the point, yes they would have. They'd have put up signs and then enforced the rules with fines.

Without the committee, a lot of popular kite spots would have been closed down a long time ago.

We should be more like surfing, right ...Surfing Australia = memberships, insurance, sponsors, fully employed staff...

the epirb/flares are another expense and additional kit if you a wave sailing/kiting say 700m offshore
theres a lot of waves spots that are just a touch further than 400m offshore, a couple of them with reputations of wind going offshore.

I just can't see the majority of kiters and sailors in waves adopting these requirements.
I've had a few circumstances when equipment failures occurred when 500m - 1km offshore, but i survived by just slowly paddling in on a board. if you lost your board you would like a pfd on. A wetsuit can give you enough float, but in summer its most likely boardies and t shirt, so no extra float, when you are stuck offshore and left to swim.
