This is actually true and was thoroughly discussed in a ?bodybuilding or windsurfing forum before (Cant remember). Essentially they attributed it to a rise of endurance and cardio sports like running, triathlon, cycling, spinning which all surged in the last 15 years, which have little initial cost but high end cost if so desired. They are also always possible, even for short amounts of time and generally suit a new yuppie generation very well.

) have also left the kitesurfing/windsurfing game as these days you have very little money in your late teens/early twenties due to increasing cost of living, increasing student debt, unavailability of a car. There is simply no money to go kitesurfing.
No wonder everyone at the beach is in their 30s.
