IMO CNC is a fine tool if you know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing, it does not matter if you make a lousy* board by hand or CAD + CNC. Designing on CAD machine is making development and construction soo much faster.
CNC is great even if you hand designed and hand shaped the best board in the world, and now you want to make a small series: get one of those
www.3dsystems.com/applications/3d-scanning , scan the puppy, CNC as many you think you can sell, and you're set to make the world a better place.
(*) as said before: horses for courses. a board is always good or bad in a certain set of parameters (rider, wind, waves...). Some boards are better than others though within that set of parameters. And some are outright dogs, i.e. a McDonalds tray used as a light wind board.
