Plummet, Where are you kiting in that video? I understand if you dont want your spot to be known.

I have to agree wider the better just look at Tomo's boards with the no nose (Firewire Vanguard). I have not surfed one yet but have spoken to guys who ride them and say they are fun and fast under the right feet.

Board shaping is a fine art and is slowly getting lost to CNC. A lot of younger guys are seeing the benifits of shaping there own.

Daniel1973 Cool Thread dude.

Must be said, there is an awesome feeling riding a board that you've made with your bare hands (and some tools) although it does cloud the judgement a little, because you put so much effort in it's really hard to say it doesn't work as intended or it's flat out crap! For some reason most home made boards are the "best board ever".

I'm guilty of that with a few surfboards even though they were just surfboards in the end, but I made them so they were the bests boards ever!

IMO CNC is a fine tool if you know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing, it does not matter if you make a lousy* board by hand or CAD + CNC. Designing on CAD machine is making development and construction soo much faster.

CNC is great even if you hand designed and hand shaped the best board in the world, and now you want to make a small series: get one of those www.3dsystems.com/applications/3d-scanning , scan the puppy, CNC as many you think you can sell, and you're set to make the world a better place.

(*) as said before: horses for courses. a board is always good or bad in a certain set of parameters (rider, wind, waves...). Some boards are better than others though within that set of parameters. And some are outright dogs, i.e. a McDonalds tray used as a light wind board.

Fine sand completed!
Micro kick put in the ends which isn't so micro. Bad shots because of light in the garage but best I can do.
Ready for fibreglass.

Yeah man I love the franz stuff. Particularly the boosting and wave riding at the same time. I just don't get why more people aren't into this style of riding.

Only 1 layer of 200g. Then a layer of 160g fiberglass sheet.

She's really quite thin because of the recessed deck and it's deceptive in pics because of the roller rails. It should still flex ok, hopefully!

Every now and then a topic comes along that is just great content and exciting to read. Good on ya daniel, orsm thread mate.
Great info from the usual suspects as well, with Cauncy and Plummet (and others), and Mr tungsten who if I'm not mistaken is well skilled
in the art of bridal design.
Can't wait to see this board progress into finished product
Well done Guys
