It's just a mind set mate. Of course it looks boring, even silly (never worn a helmet in more than ten years, boosting in 40 knots, nah, but now on the foil wearing helmet and vest, go figure). But it is fun, because I was out in sub 10 knots yesterday on a 12m kite, (check readings between 5 and 6pm), because it is fun to try different things, challenge yourself and your inactive brain cells, laugh about yourself which happens a lot when on the foil, and just glide through the scenery and watch dolphins and seals (from 1m above you have a better view plus the calmness as there is no noise or spray or anything). It is so relaxing yet certainly a workout and no question adding to your skill set. Adrenalin level is at a lower level than hitting it hard at 30 knots, damn sure, but you also don't want to exhaust yourself so you can jump on your twinny later in the day. Having said that you will still be exhausted as you bash youself around with lots of water contact and hard crashes, and the occasional unintended contact with a razor sharp foil trying to slice you in half.

So really don't compare foiling to other kiting disciplines. Just enjoy the fact it is different and it maximises your time on the water. What else would you do in sub ten knots, shopping? Mowing the actual real lawn? Great. I am happy to escape all this if I can.

With regards to mowing the lawn. It is not actually that. You are gliding over the lawn, faster than a lawn mower can, and you go crazy angles. So more like mowing the lawn on drugs. Mowing the lawn underpowered on a tt, well that is boring and slow and useless indeed.

Watched the foil racing world cup in Rockingham yesterday a bit. I am nowhere near that speed but recon it would be fun. For a change. Not exclusively and not replacing those strong wind boosting and looping sessions on a tt in mad winds. Very different sport, but not to be disregarded, and certainly requring some serious skills too. Just different ones.

It is all very personal of course. And I am still pretty crap at foiling. Don't think it is cooler or better or more exciting than other disciplines. But I like it and I like mixing it up and doing a bit of everything. Others specialise and try to shine in one discipline. That's fine. I'd probably be trying more flicky tricky stuff if I was younger and more talented. But I'd still jump on a foil in low wind, a sb to mix it up, and be on the tt most of the time.

Most importantly it gave me that stoke back to go and try new things again as opposed to keep doing what I am doing. Nothing wrong with that either though.

Anyway I have been in a similiar situation where a wanker got his 2 pit bull lookalikes to run over my kite. Problem was one of the local people was getting out of the car when she overheard the moron say to his mate "watch this kiter get pissed off".

The local tore him a new one and said I heard you set that up I am going to call the cops if there is damage to this blokes gear. This was a lady by the way and she was not a kiter just a beach user.

On the other end of the stick I have a Little mental dog (King Charles). I was out riding down the beach she was off lead running alongside. Everyone knows us and we stopped at the Cafe. My dog who is EXTREMELY Friendly went up to say hello to a group of spadex bandits and proceeded to knock over a group of VERY expensive bikes.

I quickly apologised and look at the thousands of dollars of carbon fibre laying on the ground. I quickly put my dog on lead. The leader of the riders absolutley lost his mind and let loose at me. Its hard to keep a straight face with someone yelling at you with spandex on. I said to him any repairs I would pay for (even though he had his bike leaned up against a coffee table).

He let loose even more saying it's "Probally cracked and I will have to pay for a new frame". I said thats cool I know someone who can scan the frame and make the repairs with no visable sign of the repair. I also commented that I will go and get my Van and drive him to any destination he wanted because clearly the bike was going to snap at any moment and a shard of carbon fibre would peirce his torso and he would bleed to death.

His 2 mates next to him (who had also had their bike knocked over) Burst out in laughter and said he just come from 3 streets away and had come down for coffee. They repeated to tell him that he was being a wanker and it was his fault for leaving his expensive bike where a little dog could push it over.

Eppo your right sometimes peoples attitudes blows me away.
