AFAIK the lack of red thumbs was to force people to get involved in the discussion and post a reply.

So what was the number of posts per member both before and after this change. Theoretically this should have increased.

If anyone wants to provide me the data, I can do the statistical analysis.

Or that some people were setting up multiple usernames (not too hard) to red thumb particular users/subjects all of the time, in other words abuse it and you lose it.

Not sure it will increase posts given the flaming/banter that already goes on you got to have a thick skin here.
