Needle nose pliers for removal, epoxy with white tint for reattach.
Even use UV cure resin like dentists do, so it looks legit

The only time i wish i wasn't wearing a leg rope was having to loop out of a closing wave but seriously that happens maybe 1% of the time. I'd rather wear a leg rope anyday- just came back from Mauritius and safe to say 95% of the strapless riders had a leg rope on (me included). Most of the time if i come off the board there's no tension in the line anyway - its just a simple error on my behalf.

You got to man up if you're riding outer reefs..
Sacrifices are made when you're at the outer reef..
No helmets,no go jo's and definitely no leashes... But go pro to get some footage and some scars to prove just how crazy it was...
Go to Hawaii and report back on how many use board leashes out the back!
Maybe it's a WA thing like cutting line's with a knife.. Too much agro in the line ups causing people too crash into each other and having to cut their line's? Not COOL..

its amazing how quick you can lose sight of a board and how far it can travel in offshore waves if its not attached to you.

got sick of body dragging for up to 1km through shark infested waters like a human lure or trying to body drag over near dry reef to recover a by then smashed up board.

Wouldnt like to be without a board in big surf if i had to ditch the kite either.

ill take the leg rope and risk an injury vs drowning or gettin eaten.

depends where you kite but theres not many kiting without a leggie in SW WA - just a rational trade off of risks.

Yep that was me ... getting dragged across a reef 2km out to sea with my board going bloody south into the wind on a wave grinding around a massive reef system.

Leash would have avoided all that crap.

I'd have to say body dragging for 45 minutes trying to find your surfboard thats been taken by a wave on an outer reef sounds pretty sketchy.

Would it be accurate to say most accidents with leashes occur with twin tips not surfboards as TTs get loaded up underwater then released, where a surfboard would float on top.

A short leg rope that's 1.5m in length would worse case scenario get you hit in the shoulders and below.

Nah I've had surfboards recoiling at me from the bottom depths at missile speed over the years.

Still not not sure why we are still talking about TTs and leashes. Gotta be a euro kook thing for sure.

I think plummet said once upon a time " wear a leash when the risk of losing your board is greater than the risk of getting smacked in the head with it" I think that sums it up perfect.

Another reason for a leash on a surfboard is when you are at a busy reef/bombie wave. If you lose your board and have to bodydrag through the lineup you will f it up for everyone else, creating a dangerous obstruction and making yourself very unpopular.

So it's all up to your preference from what I hear..

I just spoke to a friend today after our session about this....moreso the position he had attached his leash to which was on the handle in the centre of the board.

This position enables the board to turn into a balanced sea anchor simular to a current anchor.

So when the rider falls off and if the kite goes into a loop situation...the power from the looping kite will pull the board under the water like a horizontal rudder....
and make it very difficult for the rider to stay above water as he is pulled downward.

One or 2 loops may be ok but an out of control looping kite would not be so forgiving.

If you have to use a leash for a short time in your progression...
Put it away from the centre of the board....better still leave the leash at home.

Exactly what you describe happened to me.
If I was not carrying a line knife I doubt I would be here now.

And yes I still use a leash if going far of shore when there is no one around, but I moved the attachment point and wear a helmet.

Ahh - how refreshing its back - the leash - would have been at least 4 flame-outs over the years I can recall

Well 15 years + later 3 Reel leashes rusted out two helmets in that time too - still carry reel leash..
Head knocks from leash - zero - teeth all mine - boards lost zero..

I redefined crashing when learning to kite back 2002-2003- so useful not having to worry about board when swimming towards kite to get it to drop onto its back then move to edge of window for re-launch - did I want to go looking for a board - after that - no -way.. it could take 5+ minutes on low wind days..
It did not occur to me to attach leash to the grab handle on the TT - like putting a car steering wheel in the back seat - totally wrong - it is just lazy for wont of getting two longer bolts for fin on a TT.

I can't recall when I last hooked in when riding - would be 6+ years - do not feel risk worth while in near shore waves..

Regardless of who says what - you can buy leashes in kite shops. It is a risk assessment.
I believe It should be mandatory to cover the concept and the risks etc as part of 101 kite lesson.
So if you want to use a leash just like using a kite you know what to do and not do...

I don't ever feel I've had a dangerous situation regarding my surfboard leash, has anyone found the use of one to be unsafe?
I fall off at pretty low speeds generally and keep my head down/mindful of board at all times. Leash on TT is unnecessary and dangerous.

In general i use leash on big surf/reefs and try to remember to bring my helmet.
Everyday surf- no leash, no helmet.

reel better for twintip if you have to. I would think in the waves a surfboard leash you would want to pull the board away with you asap before it gets sucked into a wave then will really drag you.
