Simon is onto it. Foil shapes are the key. You will all loose hours now looking at foil shapes.
My google tips are to start with foil sections of Moths (sailboat) there is heaps of info there as a lot of people have done studies for there uni projects and such.
So for the perfect mast shape all you have to do is guess which speed you will go and factor in the materials that you will be using in terms of the physical area you think you will need. The foil section mentioned above is a good start you could just put a finer entry on it as the foil will be faster than the boat.
My comments above about the tips are for control reasons and to give you more wing area without breaking the surface. This is only a problem for course racing and high aspect wings though.
For muy 2 cents A few guys with LF low aspect foils have tried my race foil and agree thats its easier to ride and would be easier to learn on as its easier to control.

Hey adam, the foil looks great. Can I ask what the thickness of the base plate is that fixes the mast to the board? Would it have to be thick to handle the force when up and riding?
