PVC foam is the way to go. If anyone needs a blank let me know. 1000 x 500 x 25.
Also remember - As soon as you put epoxy, pe or ve resin over fiberglass or carbon, that thing will pretty much never break down.
You may as well use a good core that is tough, waterproof and easy to work with.

Its a bunch of work to make a board but super fun and rewarding.

I also got tracks in the bottom and footstrap inserts for learning to tack (I am learning racing) and for jumping. It takes 20-25 working hours to build a board. If you are a beginner, 50 hrs and you are slow. How many hours do you watch TV or do some other useless activity?
The joy of making and using your build, even if it's fugly, it's priceless. Anything is ok If you are making it. Anybody can do it.

You can just bend it in a form and glass it. It will loose a little rocker so you need to trial and error that. Save you the FA with ovens ect. Heat gun works but it is hard to heat it evenly.
If its your first board (or first 10) dont try and do full carbon. Glass is much more forgiving.

The entire process is harmful. Resin, fiberglass, dust, fumed silica (boxes and inserts) and especially the paint. Get a good mask and wear it.

I have been riding this Beug 85cm around the past few days.
It is as small as you would ever want to go (not saying you couldn't go smaller, you can). Very nimble, great to pump and super fun.
It will work with any wing also. Its on a pretty knife edge foil. A big surf wing would be perfect. I think 90cm is the way in this shape. Been doing a 85, 90, 95.

The 100cm boards are hard to beat however. It balances the strapless fun with the ability to strap it up and do sick foil powered airs.
I never thought i would strap it up and go that way but i did and it adds another dimension to your riding and progression. Heeps of fun when you feel ready.

Great board, track right back and a nice rocker. Flat deck grip feels comfortable for long periods. When I fall the foil stops dead and waits upwind on its side. No more chasing after the board downwind.

How are the the touch downs on the 94cm axis tray KB7? The board looks really good and great value fora light full carbon pvc construction pocket board. I can't decide between the 94 or 110cm board. I ride a lot in the waves and my current 120 cm custom temovento I easily glide back out of a touch down where as i've tried 100cm pocket boards that don't start as easily and touch downs are more jerky and more likely to stall the foil without needing much more power to recover.

Love my Armstrong hs1550 with 50cm fuse, hs 232 rear wing and +1 shim btw! Waiting on my preordered Hs1050 which was the main wing I wanted, but I'm impressed with the versatility of the 1550! It is super stable even at full speed going down over head waves at margs main break. I have it fully forward on the tracks too and it never wants to kick me off, yet is nice and responsive! Waiting to try the hs1050 with the hs232 small rear wing first before I cut the rear wing down to be even more responsive.

Yes, I wonder also if 94 is too short for touch downs. Rider weight surely comes into it as well.
At 100kg I prob would go the 110..
although 94 looks sexier...

I had the same dilemma between the 110 and 94cm, at 87kg but I'm happy with the decision as I don't think there would be much between them as they are both very low volume.

I taught myself to come straight up on the foil from a standing start on a bigger board, this would be difficult to learn on the 94 I think.
So long as you have power the foil comes up immediately with a good push on the back foot. Once up and riding I rarely ever touch down during a session, I usually fall for some other reason.
If you are up to speed the board will take light touchdowns without issue, the rocker is good.

The real problem I've discovered which I'm sure is the same for all these small low volume pocket boards is when the wind drops. You can be in a situation where the kite is still flying but you cant get going.
Even with a loop there is insufficient power to come straight up on the foil and there is no second chance once the board is underwater.

I love the quick turning an amazing light feel of this Axis 94 but I will keep my DC 4 6 for really light days when you need to surface the board to get speed to fly.

BTW..Very interested to hear your feedback on the Armstrong 1550 and new rear wing. I hadn't considered that for kiting but love the idea that is allows you to use the really small kites.

Foil - Axis K series 70cm mast & 545 wing (5th time on this mast/wing)
Ocean: lumpy
Kite: Mono 9m
Wind: 10-19kts, up and down








First impressions:
Board is so light, lighter than expected even though I expected light.
So so Shiny and sweet looking and thin. Super well made.
Tracks are 22mm high, board is 20mm thick, I wondered if the 2mm shape would be noticable underfoot - not.
Width - looks great in person (I thought it might be a bit... nuggety). I was lightly clipping the tops of waves with the edge when heeled over. I'll learn where the edges are and naturally heel slightly less, but I reckon I could deal with it being 1-2cm skinner each side though. However the extra wasn't a drama.
Scoop - having more scoop than my other board really gave me unexpected confidence. I caught a few swells downwind and had a few hairy moments - knowing i had that bit of insurance there really helped more than I thought it would.
I had the foil on number 7 - mid position slightly forward. I'll probably shift forward another 1 or 2 counts, just to move my back foot further forward.
Overall though size of the board was perfect for me, very comfortable. I could ride in a narrower stance or widen it out which I find helps with bigger swell (and a shorter mast) to have more leverage for quick height adjustments to follow the surface.

Personally if I can't get this or my other pocket board out of the water I'm not bothering. I differ from KB7 in that regard.

The only thing I could fault, and it's very minor, was that the nose of the board was quite corky when strapless starting in the swell, it wanted to lift up more than I was used to. Just a case of redirecting my hands/feet to counter. I won't notice it next session.

So I've been riding a pocket board strapless for at least six months now.
I don't recon they go up wind as well as a longer board( I lost the straps at the same time).
Just wondering what others think yes it's probably the strap ( but mine was super ) but I think the short length changes things too.

Hmm, that doesn't seem to make sense to me. It's about the wing, (and kite), not the board as it's just a platform. When you are tracking up wind are you always in the same stance or do you switch on transition? I have been on pocket boards (strapless) for a number of years and upwind angles are terrific. I can't understand the logic of a bigger board catching more wind a meter off the water as being more efficient upwind. Happy to hear what others say though...

Yup, I only track upwind to get back to my down wind run of carves, swell riding, chop, and waves then available. The only time I do big upwinders is when the wind is super light and carving isn't as dynamic. I also use the lightwind days to practice smooth transitions where little momentum is lost so you don't sink and have to get going all over again.
Did you learn to sit down on the board on a bigger board? I have been giving it a crack on my Nang, it's only a meter long and I still haven't managed to get to the sitting position. My knees and flexibility aren't what they used to be, but I am still trying. Usually comes with a good nasal cleansing : (

If you don't move your feet, and the board is so short that you can't get the width of stance you would have on a race board, you can't load it up the same...so you won't point upwind as well.

Lots of the short boards I've seen have the tracks right back, and then people install the big wings right back, and then you can't get your foot behind the mast... And y'all know how I feel about back foot in front of the mast.

On the Surf Carrot, I vary my stance from less than shoulder width to either end of the deck pad. It's 125 IIRC so if you're on a 1m or less board, I'd bet one can't spread one's stance out as much.

Reminds me -- I chased one of the racer boys this year on his Levitaz whizz-bang and 15m foil race kite, with my 720 surf foil and 10m Drifter I couldn't quite hold the same upwind angle as him, but he couldn't gets away from me he kept looking over his shoulder like a shark was chasing him down. My back and legs had had enough after that take though...

Mitch (carbon co) put me on a Nang a while back, my immediate thoughts were wow this is so much fun.
So that's when I started to sit down on it. It takes plenty of crashes before it clicks. I still have the Nang but never use it as I have a long history with Slingshot, so I picked up the micro.
My back foot sits behind the mast and perfectly on the kick tail block.

It would be cool if we had a foil master class so we could all get help with the tricks we are working on.

I hear you Horey. My last 2 sessions I have been working on tacking from toe side to heel side. I'm solid on 360s and tacks from heel to toe, but the toe to heel tack is challenging. Haven't yet attempted to sit down but may have a go next session.

I like both those boards you have. What wing set are you on now?

That wing is an original lift wing from 2013-2016 they made 3 wings for the 41 inch mast. Standard was the Osprey (about 660cm2) that wing is the Albartross the biggest one around 850cm2.
I'm keen to see the new slingshot Phantasm Dreamline foils when they drop around March....plenty of choice.
I'm surprised how far you have to fly the kite behind you when going up wing into the 360. I'm still getting spat of the back due to not weighting the front foot enough.

Has foot hooks but I prefer to ride strapless, 100cm and only just floats.
First sesh was sketchy but after that there is no going back to a bigger board.
Great design and build, love it.
(Note this is one of his early boards, the new ones are apparently even lighter and better build quality)

Had a chance to play with the Axis 110 Tray recently...

The only time I noticed the lack of volume and length was touching down when the kite was looping right near the water and I was unable to get my weight back... Nose-dived and buried it, where a board with volume would have given me that second or two to recover.

Aside from that weird situational glitch on my behalf, I rate the board exceptionally highly.
