Depends what your definition of "local business" is? I believe in NZ you have a couple of locally made foils (i.e J-shapes and Armstrong). Buying one of these is supporting your local for sure. Axis.... not so much local.....

Oh I will be supporting my local store as they sell Moses so any extra wings / 633 fuselage etc that I need, I get from them. And saving $500 isn't insignificant. Win win.

Since we're splitting hairs, China is more locally made to me than NZ or Italy or the US.

I'd like to try a J-shapes but Armstrong is way out of the price range. Especially for something untested and I don't like the look of the wing mount...

No not at all. In fact I won't sell the SS as I like it so much. I weigh 79kgs, so I'm better off on a "heavy" foil than a guy who weighs 100kg riding a foil 2kgs lighter, non?

Rooon. Where are you planning to learn to foil? If there's any chance of running into the bottom I guarantee you will at some stage when you're going pretty fast. The SS foil is solid as - your board will probably break first (it happens). While fairly heavy it's only noticeable with the full height mast and even then no big deal. I did notice it when I recently held a NP Glide in a shop, much lighter and nice workmanship, but possibly on the delicate side in the hands of a novice...? I'd be keeping an eye on the CF foils even Moses for your upgrade (as I am) once you get over the leaning hump. I am not as in love with my SS as Duke but I'd certainly be reluctant to part with it. So many memories. Having said that, alloy foils have progressed a lot in the last year or two. I was going to buy an Axis originally but a 2nd hand HG came along before Axis was locally available. Old alloy foils can be sh1te though eg LF. Use abuse and then upgrade maybe to carbon

Surf foiler bent mast and plate on a Glide and "he said" it just got tumbled in small waves.

SS is good choice because the parts are cheap, which influenced my decision. Never needed any though

But the weight both on and off the water really got me down.

I'd also started to decide what I wanted from a foil so that influenced my decision to change...

PS I wouldn't recommend the LF for anyone to buy unless it's REALLY cheap like under $400 I had fun on the Fish board without the foil though, I'd contemplate a dual-purpose skimboard...

After being in touch with Crazyfly Australia they told me that the cheap price for the Shorty was due to a glitch of their website...correct price is twice as much. At least that makes my choice easier now haha

Price was Euros, I can calm down now

I recently bought a Jshapes cruiser setup to learn on and I now regard as one of the best things I have EVER treated myself to. Dealing with Antoine is a joy - his product is top of the line and his customer service is outstanding

By the way - last year I bought a Crazy Fly carbon twintip from CF Aus website which arrived badly damaged.
After 8 months of not replying to my emails and false assurances and I finally gave up hope.
I received zero compensation even though it was insured.

Dude don't piss about. Get the axis and be done with it. No experience with the CF but me and 10 others I know of very happy with axis... and that's just in my very small circle of friends.
