I have dogs, you see.
Who has successfully toad proofed their yard? Just moved to the Sunshine Coast and found a whole bunch of toads in the back yard.

I don't like killing things but I gave them a quick knock to the head and into the bin.

So far my plan is to use mouse wire around the perimeter of my fence, bury 20cms underground, to about 70cms above the surface.

But I also think a wide version of gutter guard may be better as it's plastic. Does anyone know a stockist?

One squirt of detol does the trick,then bag and bin

Teach the dogs not to go near them

Some dogs like to give them a little lick.
Apparently the poison in small doses gives them a bit of a high so they have a lick and then space out for an hour.

Try some of this stuff




Or failing that you could get the appropriate protective gear for the hound

I'd like to do that with the rabbits here (semi Suburbia) but I'm afraid if anyone were to see any rifle at all they would freak, quickly followed by the TRG.

It really is not that difficult to train a dog to leave anything alone and at yhe end of the day it is your safest option.

I like to think I can train my dog pretty well, but I am at a loss how to stop it chasing blue tongue lizards. I think the instinct to kill something that looks like a snake is too strong. The dog doesn't seem to find them while I am there, so there is no way to teach her to leave them alone.

Maybe with toads its different, if they are everywhere?

He is waving it. Poor old bugger is getting old. I have him here in Fiji and need to find him a girlfriend so i can get a pup out of him Before he carks it.

Some clown imported toads here as well. They get bloody huge compared to the ones I was used to seeing in Queensland. I think it may have something to do with the humidity. I watched a doco on drugs on the ABC years ago and there was this utter down and outer who was extracting the venom by boiling the skin and drinking it. Did a search on it the other day on Erowid. Someone has posted about how he milks his pet buffo, dries the venom and smokes it.

Apparently it gives an astonishing psychadelic high but stinks to high heaven!

I reckon that they will clamber over guarding but it should help. What if you put some short lengths of gutter pipe around the place in the shade as well. You should be able to trap a few like that. And if you put a light in the garden at night they will be drawn to the insects and make them easy to catch If there are any around. Also if you plant heaps of marigolds and lemon grass it keeps insects away depriving them of tucker.

I flew him over a few weeks ago. It was a bloody nightmare, principally because I tried to keep costs down and do it myself. The vaccination and parasite regime is really strict. They have to have a brucellosis test which costs roughly $500 which has to be done within a certain period of flying, any delay and you start all over again.

The bloody vets are apparently notoriously bad at paperwork and regularly f uck it up which happened to me. Fortunately the people who flew hin, Skypets, fixed it up. I cannot speak highly enough of them, they were bloody brilliant.

Mine and another dog were kicked off the flight whilst I was waiting for my boarding pass because some pin headed clown decided that two mutts inside travel crates were incompatible with perishable food in the hold so when I got Nadi he wasnt there which screwed all the arrangements up. I could write a book about it.

Number one lesson learned? Hand the whole bang shoot over to an agent.

Cost roughly $4k. I'v e been too scared to work it out! It's a major rip off. I flew him to Perth in 2009, five hour flight compared to three to Nadi, $150.

If he carks it on me before I get some pups out of him I'm going to get him stuffed so I can kick his arse when I get up every morning and just before I go to bed!

Oh, and the Fijian's are changing the flag which has also got the poxy piece of s hit in the corner!

Have you got any idea how hard it is to get one of these things to pose for a foto ?

Especially when they've got a flag taped to them ?

I also hold a British passport but I think we can off do with the whole union jack thingo here in Australia

My 21st birthday present from my old man was a Staffy, 1976. He was a bloody legend. Used to hunt with him all the time and he associated the rifle with stuff to maul. When I got back from work he would start barking at the rifle. All you had to do was fire a shot into the distance and he would follow the bullet, sometimes for hours.

He also had this thing about rocks and would dig a massive hole around his favorite and then try to get it out by flipping it through his back legs. If you stuck the rock in the fork of a tree he would not give up trying to dislodge it.

His piece de resistance was jumping out of the land rover window at 80kph while chasing an ostrich. Fortunately the road was sand!
