Mostly because if your neighbor hears you talking about his wife's tits he's gonna be mad, if some random company hears that they will try to sell you binoculars.
Haha! You made me chuckle!
On a slightly different aspect about this subject...yes I hate that we are being monitored constantly. It sucks and the biggest thing for me is that;
I. DON'T. NEED. TARGETED. ADVERTISING.
Seriously. If I'm looking for something, I will research the absolute crap out of it. I'll find what I want and buy it, or store the information away in my mind until I am ready to get what I was looking for.
The crap thing about targeted advertising is that after I have looked for what I want, all I see online for the next days/weeks etc, are ads for the thing I already know everything about (place to get best price etc), so the ads are useless and especially annoying when they are for websites I have already visited.
I don't need this information. There has been no time ever that I have been shown an ad for something that I don't already know everything I need to know about.
For me it's useless, I would rather they show me ads for things that are as far away as possible from what I was looking for.
Show me something I haven't thought of dammit!! Something I haven't conceived of.
I refer serendipitous discovery to being shown regurgitated material I have already looked into.
