Ban the serial sooky-la-las that over use the reporting button. Problem solvered.
While a person continues to agitate that this particular forum is not up to their own personal standards by posting memes against the forum, ridiculing the mods etc, then maybe the reality is that this forum is not for them.
Do these people go to parties and hammer everyone with their world views, and then turn on and ridicule the host if the host asks them to settle down because other guests have shared that this person is ruining the party?
People are invited here, and people that post here accepted that invitation under the condition that they will conduct themselves as a reasonable person, respect others, and refrain from abuse/hatred.
We're all here to socialise, and enjoy each others company.
If the above is disagreeable, there have never been more places on the internet to go and share ones views.
Culture comes from the top.
You were the one complaining about receiving multiple complaints from the sooks on here.
You've suspended me multiple times for participating in discussions, as an opposing view to the people you obviously agree with, yet you do nothing to those here that are actively aggressive, much more than I have ever been.
But you punish 'memes' (oh the dreaded memes that torment so many here!)
You actively support your purple circle of thugs on here who are extremely abrasive, resort to bullying, abuse, being extremely inflammatory and even give threats of violence, because they don't agree with other alternative views. And you obviously agree with and condone their behaviour again and again.
You allow your purple circle to break the forum rules, your application of said rules is extremely and blatantly biased.
It's the same pattern again and again; you allow your little yapping pets to inflame threads to the point of conflict, to which they then call for lockdowns, and instead of pulling on their leashes, you pander to their crocodile tears.
I'm not claiming to be a saint, I enjoy pushing people's buttons from time to time, but am in no way as provocative as your core group of sanctioned yappers.
This used to be a great and thriving site, but that was a long time ago and the decline in quality continues, as it is quite clear that you have long ago lost your passion for this site.
Props to you for running it as long as you have, I'm sure it's not easy.
You have however allowed a culture to develop that turns many people away and has done so for longer than the recent events (covid discussions) have done.
You and only you are responsible for the tone of the site, the buck stops with you.
You say it's possibly not the right site for me.
Your numbers and member participation would suggest it currently isn't the right site for many people.
Look at how much of a ghost town the general discussion section is when the more 'spirited' threads are shut down.
Most people come here for the weather but avoid participating for avoidance of being harassed and condescended to by the likes of FormulaNovice, Lotofhotwind and their ilk.
And let's not forget the resident internet tough-guy chrispy, always ready to parade his bravado and threaten violence, which you allow time and again.
Heavy weather was a good move (I'm not suggesting to bringing it back), the main site was a lot more lively then as you had your quarantine area.
However the root cause then, as it is now to your ongoing issues is the amount of sooky sooks who can't deal with not agreeing with other people, and way overuse the reporting system.
These people and I bet there are only a few, are they really worth pandering to? Maybe those who overuse the reporting system should be suspended so they have time to go and seek help to learn how to maturely handle views they disagree with.
If you don't want anything discussed here other than wind/watersports, then killing off the general section is the way to go by definition.
If you still want the lighter side of life discussed as well as wind/watersports, then you shouldn't be letting threads you don't want, run on in which your core group of sanctioned abusive members can take advantage of their immunity to the rules.
This could be a great site again, IT REALLY WAS such a great, engaging site (when is the last time news has been posted/updated as an example), but to be again it's something you need to want to have happen.
Perhaps being even-handed with the rules would help that as a start.
Culture comes from the top.
