I reckon the biggest problem is everyone thinks they're right and know everything and it's all some one else's fault.
Maybe peeps need to honestly assess their own driving.
BTW, I dont think I'm perfect, far from it, but i do try to go with the flow, still occasionally make mistakes after 30 years.

Tailgaters. Isn't that what the wanka who is driving below the speed limit, most likely using his/her phone, in the right hand lane calls the bloke who is trying to travel at the speed limit, and who has flashed his lights several times to indicate his intention, as he approaches from behind. Then said wanka feels he is entitled to brake and potentially cause an accident.
Or it's the other wanka who cut's into your safe distance to the next vehicle, usually without indicating, and expects you to brake to provide the safety he/she did not bother to. Sheilas a worst at this. Spatially brainless, and self entitled. A dangerous combination.

When I'm being tailgated I slow down a little to allow them to get very close to me, then I turn on my lights, they think I'm hitting the breaks, so they hit theirs.
I love that, it freaks them out, and they deserve it!
It only works in the daytime though.

I do the same but use the windscreen washer & give the tailgater a good soaking - works every time.

Driving to Albany, hardly any traffic, clear in front of me for miles. Car comes up fairly fast behind me, but instead of passing sits on my bumper. Not so bad if there's no passing opportunity, but it's clear for miles!
I take advantage of the gravel shoulder, and put 2 wheels onto it. A spray of gravel is much more effective than a few drops of water! Certainly woke her up to the dangers of being much too close to the person in front.

I have way too much common sense to tailgate.
Have always used my observation and senses to determine what is real - and I see and feel real danger in tailgating.
I conclude that Aus1111,myusernam,Ian K,Elmo, pweedas and Rupert are habitual tailgaters Mark not far behind them.
Adriano is a mild abuser, only Cisco, the doctor and Japie have the sense not to tailgate.
You can tell a lot about how a person drives by the way they think.

Be very careful there, petermac33. Now that you have compiled a list of tailgaters, the ABS is going to link these name with their addresses, and bingo ! The cops will be paying them a visit !

Still, I wouldn't mind a couple of them got nicked though

Yes, you can tell a lot about how a person drives when he is NOT thinking

In my recent experience tailgaters are almost invariably driving a late model dual cab 4 wd utes. These are the latest phallic extension.

well said volvo driver

Volvo!!! No chance. Fairmonts and Corollas only and I pass more than pass me and never tailgate. On the highway I am looking a kilometre ahead and hang well back (5-6 car lengths) until I know there is an overtaking opportunity coming up.

You've got strange Volvo societal issues in Ozzyland also? Interesting, even though I don't know what they are, or if they are even societal.
Here in the U.S. it is assumed (for reasons that I've yet to understand) Volvo station wagons are driven primarily by lesbians.
Go figure.

Oh yes!! If it is a 70s or 80s Volvo sedan painted yellow, the driver will be a certifiable nutter.

It seems the traffic jams are all down to tailgaters and impatient drivers and the fix is to leave a big gap ahead of you.

Another phenomena I have found is when travelling, as I often do between Brisbane and Bundaberg (375 klms, usually a 4 hour drive), if I drive say 10 kmh over the speed limit and pass other vehicles as much as possible, after slowing for towns and roadworks, the time gain is very little or nil compared to if I had just stayed in the traffic flow and to the speed limit.

The risk factor is much greater for little or no gain.

The latest RACQ Road Ahead magazine has an article "Battling the Big Waves" (traffic waves) which references this web page and the last line of the article is

"Leave space, don't cramp your style and become a Zen Traffic Warrior."

Mate used to own a small servo with mechanical workshop attached.
He quickly realized that when a Volvo turned up, he smothered the owners, male and female in kindness.
The said owners would soon have him completing all sorts of mechanical repairs, (because of the so called reliability of the vehicles ) and diagnostics. Kar-ching Kar-ching Kar-ching.
