I feel your pain. Went thru all that last Xmas, with an XBox360 so son could play new version of Call of Duty game. None of the previous games required internet connection but this did.
In addition to all that sh!t, we then had to delete all previous games' data and plug in extra storage. Account setup failed again and again and after 2 days of that crap - new game unable to be played in its entirety (small microscopic print tells you that apparently the version they make for older consoles does fk - all compared to the full game) arrgghhhhh
One very upset 11 y/o and dad thinking that C.O.D could be good training for what he'd like to do at the Microsoft head office.

Daddy should have done a bit of research using the interwebs before purchase, all the above is common knowledge with 2mins of google, Im surprised your 11yr old didn't let you know of the mistake when you bought it.
Tip for the elderly-------DONT buy tec stuff without consulting a youth first!!!

How about the "new" old Nintendo???? easy to have fun with just 2 buttons and a directional pad! I used to play it all nite specially Zelda 1 & 2..... show my age now!

It's $100 and sold out till at least xmas, possibly later.

For that you get 30 good NES games.

But you also get 1m long wires on the controllers. So you have to either have the machine on a coffee table with really long HDMI & Usb cables to your TV, or sit your @rse on the floor in front of the TV. Which might feel retro for the first 5 minutes and then a pain.

I would spend the money on one of these, the difference in price is the controllers, with the bluetooth (wireless) ones at the bottom being the best.

For that you get *every* NES, SNES, & Megadrive game, plus a bunch of other stuff if you want it like MAME for all the old arcade games (RYGAR anyone?) . The only messing about is downloading 1 rom pack and copying it to the right place.

Oh thanks lotofwind, that's really helpful, that's really good advice, that's exactly what I'll do in the past, when it happens again, last week.

I NIT YOU SHOT Overwatch IS DOWNLOADING ANOTHER 10GB UPDATE. ALREADY.

WTF!?!?!?

Apart from that bull**** (perhaps we had exquisitely bad timing) it's a pretty damn slick little game.

It's a bit annoying... I feel like the software updates are set to come out at a convenient time for the U.S, but it's usually when people are trying to play here. That being said, if you put it on auto download and use the standby mode, it will usually take care of downloading and installing while you're not yhere

i reckon sony have dropped the ball with their electronics in last few years. they seem to be more concerned with the protection of their copyright over artists songs and movies than electronics.

then don't get me going on usernames and passwords. As long as I remember the master password for keepass Im good with a few hundred passwords.

Our ps4 is a glorified blu Ray player. My middle son will play a game for 1hr a week so it sits there pretty lonely.

Anyway what I found was that if you decline updates then after half a dozen movies it won't even let you insert a DVD.

BTW just wait for the random eject error.... Followed by random beeping.

Here's a sign of how badly Sony dropped the ball. Their own proprietary surround sound ps4 headphones wouldn't work for a Year thanks to a dodgy upgrade.

Sony sux.

Our PS3 is used a fair bit as a media centre. Our TV is fairly old, around a 10 year old plasma that has a good picture but is completely non smart so the PS3 does all the media playing duties. As we have moved onto video on demand services like everyone else, the file limitations of the PS3 become less important.

I have an old X Box, the original one that has a number of emulators on it. There are emulators for Atari, Intellivison, NES, Super NES, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive and arcade MAME. The X Box controllers work very well with most of the games. There are a ton of games, many don't work but plenty do. I set it all up around 12 years ago and it still works fine. I really wouldn't know how to fix it if it went wrong now.
