Don't need hammer. Won't drill steel etc, I have a real drill for such jobs. What is the cheapest worth having? (Its something used once a week and if I have to do concrete or steel the real drill comes out so that's why I say cheapest worth having. So replies like "Makita only" are not helpful).

Do I buy 18V - when so many are going 20 and 24V ....... don't want to be obsolete and can't get batteries in 2-5yrs time. I also wonder if 20 and 24V is a load of crap if tradies use 18V just fine...?

Thoughts?

If you're shop vac'ing the tool, pointless going battery.
Batteries are getting crazy expensive... $160 for a 5Ah 18v, is plain robbery.

What would you say about compatibile batteries offered on eBay as 6ah but tested to have only 2ah or less. Hundreds of offers like that.
I bought few for my chainsaw and they even supply amps to power it. Complete waste. But my own battery bank's cost me $300 per kWhto build. 5ah x 18v=0.090 kWh
So at price$160 you pay $1,777 per kWh.
Six times more that battery should cost!

Now I am working on universal bank for my Ryobi.
It will consist of empty battery box - serving as plug
Short cable- 1 meter
and
nice aluminum box from e-bike like that .
This will be compromise between corded and cordless devices.
ebike batterty provide the max watts hours / per $$$.

additional benefit will be actually make " cordless battery tool" much lighter. When you remove battery you don't need constatly
handle those with tools.
Short cable will make tool still very portable .
Stihl do so for their battery chainsaw in the form of backpack- but obviously extremly expensive , like 2K !!
Battery bike cost more like $250
