I gave away nine fig cuttings to my neighbors to act as decoys, I mean as presents.
My next plan is to put rat obstacles on the walls and tree trunks; this will force them to have to run on the ground, and if I can get a hunting cat, it should resolve the issue.

get yourself a trail cam so you can correctly assess what little baskets you have raiding your crops, makes it simpler setting deterrents.

We have loads of the ****ers. They scurry about the fence live in our boganvillia's eat all our produce. My neighbour gets pissed and sits for hours still with his airgun and pops them off. They still come back. Ive tried many variations on the bucket theme without success those snap traps are good but eventually they stop working.
Hanging a dead one by the tail doesnt work either.
A friend once did an astral projection of a gargoyle onto pice of board and reckoned that worked - it was the 90's tho.

One of the things I learned about possums is that there is no point removing them as there are plenty of others to replace them. Just build them boxes to sleep in where it's convenient and then forget about them. Then forget about growing tomatoes and anything else they like.

Yep, I agree, heaps around so just let this guy go. Another would only replace it if rehomed. At least we know what the scratching is.

They are pretty clever. I remember one came up to us at a group dinner at a holiday house, during the evening, perfectly tame, knowing that people would feed it. I agree, that they don't like bright light, but this one seemed to figure it also meant food.

I had them at my house for years, and then got a dog, so the dog would run around the tree barking its head off, and the possums just ignored it.

They are territorial, and if there is not one in your territory, there soon will be. They are smart too, as I had one figure out that it could lift up a roof tile, and then found itself a great place to burrow in amongst the insulation in my roof. The trouble with that is that they know the smell of the place and will go to great pains to get back there, so you may as well make it difficult for them and offer them somewhere else to sleep. If you don't give them somewhere else to nest, they will just get back into your roof if there are any options.

My last house had possum boxes in the trees everywhere. Better than having them in the roofspace.

Thanks for your insight, however, I can just look at them with my eyes.

To be fair though "rodent" control covers a fairly broad range of animals.

Maybe you have a herd of these munching on ya melons ?

I have friendly Carpet Python that could take care about rodents.
My only worry is that could take care of my Basset Hound too if hungry.

I indeed run over accidently poisonous snake hiding in the grass with my push lawn mower. Poor creature looks a bit tormented after. Maybe even distress a bit?
