I retired today .
Im happy and sad and drunk.
Any tips to staying sane ?

I have also gone into a waaaaay early semi retirement took 6 months off last summer and now only work 4 days a week max each week and finish no later than 2pm ( 1pm daylight savings) so don't miss arvo seabreeze's....ever. Life is awesome

They have asked me to be a moderator, but don't believe anyone should play god on what people can say or cant say so have turned it down..

Have decided to enjoy life while still young and fit and can do everything , then work full time when Im old and fat and cant do the sports/activities I love.

Did you want to retire? I always though the ideal would be to have a part time something to do, but I guess it depends on the person.

One of my grandfathers found it good to be retired, and spent a lot of time tinkering in the shed.

I think the other one didn't want to retire and started making all sorts of things to occupy his time once he was retired. Lucky for us grandchildren, we were the right age to take advantage of all his time.


Edit, every now and then I meet someone that is retired and they find good sailing spots all over the place to occupy their time. Sounds good to me! North in winter, south in summer!

I have my next two boards figured out in my mind , Ive slept on it for the last six months , Down to the best grit finish .

Did I want to retire ? Everyone wants to .
Is it too early ? , yes , way too early .
I will tinker , I have no choice. For I am a box head engineer .
My garage will have a lathe and mill.
I can fix anything for a six pac .

Thats what I should have on my card that I put up at the local bowls club

^^^ Back in my day we didn't have youtube, we rode our penny farthings to the malt shop for a milkshake and to put a penny in the space invaders video machine

People that go to work are lucky as their day is planned and goals must be met.
We poor retired people have to think everyday what to do.
A friend who retired well ahead of me said "I put off a lot of jobs to do when I retire, then he said now retired I still do not want to do them"
I not complaining just did 12k kayak this morning then 26.5k this afternoon kite foiling while I am 72 as 73 on Saturday .??

I don't think I'll retire. I'll have to keep working and paying taxes to support those who don't want to or can't work. There is a fair chance my superannuation will be confiscated to pay for some hair brained scheme to save society and the world. It really is on the cards the way things are heading.

Leave that boring stuff till your too old to enjoy sports/travel/life/your kids. You cant get that time back at 70

I retired on the 4th of January this year. Best decision ever, although since I now rely on my meagre super, I have to be careful of my spending. At first I did a few renovations, SUPped a bit, surfed and went to the gym. Got lazy during winter, so now it being spring time it's back into it.

I am now 64 and As I said, best decision ever, you just need a bit of structure.

World travel is the key. Then buy a van and travel around Australia.

Once you've done that, then move to the shed and lawn bowls.

I retired 3 years ago, I was 48. I was amazed to find out that I wasn't ready for it, although the fact that all my friends were still working had a lot to do with it. Six months later I found myself at Uni with plans to become a part-time maths teacher, although ended up accepting an offer to work from home for an overseas company. Not sure when I'll be ready to try it again, but I think I'd rather do a few days a week for a while before pulling up the stumps.

Dont get bored and go over your sons and grand kids house handing out unwanted advice on how to live your life and start talking about how good you are. Its a real fambily deal breaker Especially at Christmas when no-one visits you cause your a delusional old twat

Far out. I've got so many water hobbies I could fill many days if retired. Happy days brother.

Enjoy Imax1, more time using your windsurf toys and projects.
Get some light wind activities like SUP or MTB biking.
Have more fun

Harrow, I retired gradually, went half time when I was 48, found that the drop in tax almost matched the drop in wages. Fully retired 10 years later. Another 16 years on, no regrets, it's been fantastic! There was/is plenty of stuff to do, even now when I'm starting to slow down, there's plenty of interesting things going on, (like trying to figure out where my helmet is for one).

Not quite there yet, but I can reread books at an increasingly shorter cycle

If you can't remember the ending of the book , I'm sad to say ..........
However , there is some hope ,
