Two dollars a litre soon.

Spending money on petrol is becoming a high percentage of most people's income.

I spend around 45 dollars a week on 91 fuel but i guess that will be closer to 55 now,and 70 soon.

A lot less cars on the road soon should result in more efficiency and less time driving.

Yup wish I got a diesel years ago.
Fish n chips oil straight, no flash biodiesel. Just add a bit of turps. Or start on normal fuel then switch tanks when hot.
Or, expired aviation turbine fuel can be found.... troopie at work smelled nice on JetA1

I do agree petrol needs to come down, the flow on effect for transport of goods = cost to consumer
the cost to tourism must be huge
In the country its a killer, its $600 just in juice to go to Gnaraloo so why not just go to Bali. That's gotta be a big impact on regional areas.

The 'price cycle' is ridiculous as it does not happen with milk or bread just cos most people get paid on a Thursday. It goes up real quick with the international crude price but does not come down do fast, when the price of crude dropped 30% a couple years ago our petrol dropped 10% over a couple of months. But if crude goes up they are real damn fast to stick fuel up. Pricks..... and the ACCC / Govt seems to agree its OK. Hmmmm

Isn't higher energy prices through taxes, needed to save us from imminent global environmental catastrophe? We've only have three years to change before we fall over the edge into environmental hell. So they say.

We constantly hear we need to stop using fossil fuels as they are evil. Thus it's good to tax the consumption of these fuels. So why complain about taxes that will reduce consumption if taxes drive the prices high enough?

It's crazy.... the higher the price of petrol the more likely people are to consider other options ie: electric vehicles ... the more electric cars on the road the more people accept them the more likely they are to proliferate .... eventually leading to a decrease in demand for petroleum.... oil producing companies should be decreasing the price of oil to make petroleum the more attractive option before the electric revolution gains momentum.

Anyway back to Mr Milk's article- it is spot on about selling the silver and ignoring the traditional wisdom re: our reserves. Seems to be the Australian politicians' main strategies in the last 20yrs or so.

But it is a bit hypocritical of the media to report such- nobody has strenuously resisted the sell-off of utilities ( its unwise as big private companies pack up and p!ss off when its no longer profitable, so a natural disaster or war would see utilities just disappear) and the media is ignoring a massive threat - solar flare. About the scariest doomsday thing possible.
But with petrol, there is some left vs right point scoring to be made so its easy for a journo to sound like they are targeting the big issues by addressing out petroleum reserves. Well done Mr Journo.

One wonders though: if importing for the time being is protecting our reserves so we can be self sufficient in 50 or 100yrs when all others have run out? Could be a strategic plan...? (I doubt it given the lack of forethought and statesmanship in the last few decades but, hey ya never know)

Been over $2 a litre in NZ never put me off visiting can get a way with a small fuel efficient car for the snow not so much at Gnarrloo.May be the Zionist greens want us to take up kiting where small cars are an option.
Electric car production ramping up right now but to quote a European news story the 500kg battery in a 4wd Ute charged in Germany using their coal power stations has a very small Carbon reduction compared to charging it across the boarder in France where their power is almost all Nuclear

Our petrol is among the cheapest in the western world. Hve a few less trips the coffee cart each week. That will cover the cost.

Depends where you live. City prices go up and down a lot more than bush prices. And forget about the Colesworth discount. My local non docket Caltex is always the same price or lower, and gives bigger litres. The 7/11 stations between me and Sydney are also better value than Colesworth stations.

Most Diesel is used by the transport, mining and agriculture industries. It is normally more expensive than petrol at 1.50 to 1.60 a litre. It would make it a lot harder to quote freight rates, drilling rates, harvesting rates etc if it moved around like petrol did.
They get away with charging a bit more because a business will then claim back the gst component and an additional 15.4 cents a litre fuel rebate if used on road (trucks over 4.5t) or a whopping 41.2cents if used off road,ie.drill rigs, tractors,generators

It's $1.65/liter here, and minimum wage is averaging about $8.50/hour ... about 19.5%.
Back in NZ, gas is 15.5% of minimum wage even though it's $2.55 a liter.

And it looks like it's 8.6% of M.W. in Australia.

So, shut up

That's right Stoff, diesel is a heavily used industrial fuel that requires less refining. Demand, supply and therefore price are heaps more stable

I have given up eating chocolate for good. My one a day 45g choc bar is costing me around 10 dollars per week when you factor in occasional two a day weaknesses

The 10 dollar a week saving should just about offset my weekly increase in petrol.

Ive been driving lately even more in neutral too.

Allowing us to drive around in luxurious,super sophisticated machines - in another generation or two that could well become a thing of the past.
